Favourites in Kerala

My husband and I are visiting Kerala in April and we just wondered if you experienced Indiamike travellers could tell us of your favourite places in Kerala and why.

Cochin - Lots of history and culture. Dutch Palace, Chinese Fishing Nets, Vasco da Gama's grave, Jew Town, Synagogue. We like Brunton Boatyard Hotel.

The Backwaters - One day and one night on a converted rice barge is enough for us (some people take longer). There are no words to describe the beauty, the calm, the relaxation... Take an overnight trip from Alleppey to Coconut Lagoon at Kumarakom. Not the cheapest, but definately the best.

Thekkedy & Lake Periyar - Up in the hills it is a lot cooler; totally different terrain and flora. Plenty of stunning views, wild animals and not to be missed. Haven't found an ideal hotel yet, but Spice Village is the best so far.

We have a travel agent friend in Cochin who can organise any trips and hotels for you in Kerala - if you would like her contact details, plesae send me a Private Message.

karibu chum, If you like I can tell you the name of the UK-based agent who organised my Kerala tours for me over several years. Small company, very personal service, and good agents in Kerala.

Don't see why I shouldn't give them a public plug...

http://www.keralaconnections.co.uk/home.html

They are using a little more Flash than suites my taste on their current website, but they are good people.

Unfortunately they are ignoring small properties seems to have a bias for high end properties.
