| Drive Alleppey/Allepuzha TO Goa in 2.5 days We are a couple from Pune, and driving to Kerala. I need some help for the trip back from Alleppey to Goa. We want to start in the morning from Alleppey on Day-1 and would like to reach Anjuna (Goa) on Day-3 afternoon, which makes around 2.5 days driving in between. This is because we have a booking in Goa already done. My idea was.. Day1 - Alleppey to Managalore/Udupi ? Day2 - Mangalore/Udupi to "someplace" near Goa Day3 - "someplace" to Anjuna. I'm not able to choose the 2 night stays in between. The only factors to be considered are availibility of clean economic rooms, an optimum travel fatigue, and being placed near to Goa on day 2 so that I can reach Anjuna by afternoon on Day-3. Appreciate help. Thanks, Simanta |

| Simanta, May be:- Day 1 --> Alleppey to Kannur [ You could stay in KTDC budget Hotel in city] Day 2 --> Kannur to Murdeshwar Or Gokarna [ Where again all kind of accomodation Available] Day 3--> To Goa ! This way you could balance the Distance covered somewhat Equally for those 2.5 Days ! I feel , the Alleppey to Udupi / Mangalore is too far a distance to cover in a Day considering the Heavy Traffic atleast in Alleppey until Thrissur & Again the Kasaragod - Udupi which is one of the heavy stretch in NH17 .. Also As Mangalore to Goa is only around 400 kms .. If you reach upto Udupi on first day itself, you could very well reach your destination by maximum Evening on the Second day which you do not want I suppose ! Also Road condition wise, Challenge will be from Surathkal to Kundapura [Heavy Traffic plus poor roads] and even the stretch is average until Honnavar too.... Hope this helps ! Have a Fantastic Journey! Velu |

| Velu - Thanks a lot, that really helped ! I will see if the booking is available at Kannur... but the challenge in Gokarn is that hotels may have a high price around that time.. what do you say ? Any hotel recommendation in Gokarn and the other place you mentioned (sorry i forgot the name and can't go back to that window ![]() |

| You are Welcome Simanta !In Kannur, We stayed in Hotel KTDC [ Kerala government Tourism - Budget Category], Near Police Quarters .. If you come from Kozhikodu end [Around 2 kms before Private bus stand] this place is there. Please be aware, this is a budget Hotel [No T/V , Hot Water] infact we payed only 600 Rs / Night for 6 bedded Room ..It was spacious, Old, and Location is calm !.Best Reception people as infact they opened up all Vacant 6 - bedded rooms with much interest and We chose the one which we liked. Best Nearest Place from this lodge for Food is "India Coffee House" -- NH17 Kannur ! & anyways there are so many places to stay and you could decide based on your budget and comfort ! In Gokarna, We stayed in Hotel Gokarna international [ I think there might be multiple hotels by this OR similar looking name] but this one is 1 km before Gokarna Shiva Temple on the main road itself and it's ok . There is one Veg Restaurant on the Ground floor . I remember paying 400 Rs for 2 Bedded room / Night !.. We visited as a group and that's a religious visit ! I referred Murdeshwar [The other place] but infact we never stayed there but covered enroute.. We have seen many temple / Devasthanam managed Accomodations there !.. Calm / Nice place for a day's break with the added attraction of Tallest "Shiva Idol" !!... Cheers Velu |

If you are able to drive up to Mangalore on day 1, then i would suggest you can take your next night halt at Karwar. Dont stay at Gokarna,do some sight seeing at gokarna enroute and then leave for Karwar. Stay at Karwar and leave from KArwar to Goa next day. KArwar to Panaji is jut 120 KM. You can find reasonable hotels at Karwar.

Is there any reason I wouldn't want to stay in Gokarna ? With the Kannur Gokarn plan, I will drive 8 hrs each for 2 days and then will go Goa is 3-4 hrs on the 3rd day. On my way to Goa I will get a view of south goa beaches in the morning.. I am interested to know is there any negative point of night stay in Gokarna (and Kannur too).
