Diwali on a houseboat?

After a number of posts throughout India Mike about taking care during Holi - we have a question about Diwali.

We are travelling independently (holiday we've arranged ourselves rhrough an Indian Travel Agent). We will be on a houseboat out of Aleppey on the night of Diwali (October 28th). This far out it's no real hassle to change that.

What's the advice of the forum - best changed (avoid the chance of any silly incident when we're out on the water in the dark) or OK??

Thanks.

Safe as a house. If anything you will be able to catch the Deepavali (as it is known in Kerala) celebrations in the surrounding villages from your house boat.

Deepavali is not celeberated that strongly in Kerala unlike other parts of India. Very little fireworks etc and that too only by those who have lived outside the state and non Keralites who are living in the state. So nothing to fear - you will be perfectly safe!
