I think its too isolated being at the top of the peak.

On the same road theres "Blackberry Resort" ... Its a good place to stay. Its in the valley. So you have to walk some distance from reservation building to your cottage. But its fun. The place is isolated but then city is not to far.

Please go through their website for further details.

Hi there, I went there just to have a look, its OK

Further back down on the same road there is a place called Tall Trees Resort, beaut cottages spread amongst forest surroundings, also has really nice walkways through beautifully kept gardens.

see pics, last pic with large white buildings is
DESHADAN, Personally Tall Trees for Me.
The building you can just see through the trees is
Tall Trees Restaraunt.Tall Trees has pretty good
Packages from memory.

Thanks..

I think our other option is Olive Brook, with separate cottages for each couple...

I will check that out too, and Elysium Gardens. We have been recommended Sienna Village or Tea County. Another suggestion was for Forest Haven. Tall Trees sounded nice but its very over priced and does not have good overall reviews. Havent finalised yet, still waiting for some more quotations.

I had a look at Elysium Gardens back in 2006,I
thought the room were pretty dinghey for what they were asking.

Have heard Olive Brook is very nice I have heard.

Sieena Village & Tea County are not cheap from what I understand.

Isaccs Residency is another reasonable option.

Yes, all of them are grossly overpriced considering that May is a peak season and it will be quite crowded. The tour operators have quoted package prices for hotels which are lower than the website quoted prices.

The websites all portray a glorified picture and one is never sure from reviews whether the hotels themselves have inserted them.

Im having second thoughts about going to Munnar now. Our trip is basically for Thekkady - 4 days as its the best time to see wildlife [in one of the best sanctuaries], and I can vouch for that from previous visits there in May. Just thought since we are spending so much for airfare, we could combine another 4 days elsewhere. Usually we always travel off-season to avoid crowds and to enjoy our mostly nature based vacations. Someone also suggested 2 nights at Thattekadu sanctuary in the Bird Lagoon resort. Still waiting for revised quotations from the many agents who have contacted me. keralatourism.org has this message board where if you post your itinerary, several tour operators get back to you - some with quite reasonable quotes. Im in a dialogue with some of them and will finalise soon. I think they have their tourism quite well organised, only wish the hotels were a bit more reasonably priced.

Angry gods owned (by few) country

kerala is blessed by nature but the tourism development is being handled by private operators with profit motive only. Consider the 90-110 euro daily price quoted by these unprofessional Munnar resorters with some of the best accomodations available in Himalayan regions of Himachal / Uttaranchal or even Srilanka.

The exploitation is very much prevalent in the Idukki district ( esp Munnar ) .

You are right. The prices are ridiculously over the top, in the same rate you get much better deals elsewhere.
I have now got quotes for 40K for 8nts incl pvt car, and slightly less from another. Still trying to decide.

Stayed at Olive brook. Fantastic. about 500m from a very small village with one shop.Ain't nothin to do but chill. They take you in the kichen before dinner so you can have a mini cookery lesson. You dine with your fellow guests, can be fun
