Cruise Cochin - Alleppey ??
Id like to know if its possible to do a backwater cruise on a Kettavalum from Cochin to Kollam or even to Trivandrum (just trying to get the cruise to fiinish as close to Varkala as possible).
Id like to know how long this trip would take and if its possible for the cruise to go that far . Many thanks |

anything is possible in India for the right price. don't let the just the advertised cruises fool you into thinking nothing else exists. just ask around after you get there. or put in an inquiry with your hotel. you might get ripped off on the internet, as most of the websites are just middlemen.

yes, you got the point. When i enquired for the same boat rip (kollam to Kottayam) on the net, the quotes were double the price. So we went direct to the jetty (since it was off season), and you see the boat and bargain get your boat. People are friendly, so though bargaining can be very gut wrenching, but if you ask them politely and justify your offer logically, it always worked. good luck. dan |

YOu could do the Kettuvallom cruise from Alleppey to Alumkadave (25 kms north of Kollam). No houseboats are operating between Kochi / Cochin to Allepey. The route is not interesting enough. For the same route, you could take 1 / 2 / 3 nights. For more than one night the houseboat would cruise through more narrow canals. Or, you could take Kumarakom - Alumkadave. But, the backwaters around Kumarakom are very wide and having less activities.

from cochin to allepey, as far as i know, no boats. best bet, bus or car to Allepey. most of the backwater cruises are based there, ask on the jetty. There is one regular boat bettween Allepey and Kollam ,takes about 8 hours and is very pleasent.Once again ask on jetty or hotel might be able to arrange for you .From Kollam toTrivandrum as far as i know no boat. that leg train bus car.
