Cochin > Wayanad > Coorg > Kozhikode in August first week
Cochin > Wayanad > Coorg > Kozhikode in August first week
Hi,
I am planning to travel to Coorg and Wayanad during 2-August to 16 August. I plan to fly into Cochin and then stay for a day or two and then head to Wayanad and then Coorg. And my return flight (to Delhi) would be from Kozhikode.
Please advise if it will be too much for the days (I have no more leaves
) Also, will it be raining heavily on these days? Following the news on India , I see that monsoon is slightly delayed, so how will it be in August 1st week? I will be travelling with a friend, sow e can hire a car for traveling between cities.
Advice, suggestions and trip modifications are welcome!
Thanks

Last year we spend a fortnight in Khozikode, Wayanad and Coorg. For traveling between these places we used each time a car.

Thanks Vonkla for your reply. My main concern is the weather. We received different responses from different hotels/people about the rains in August first week. We would like to explore the outdoors as well and would not like to be stuck due to rains. Anyone who would have some input about august would help a great deal.

The first half of August is generally rainy in Wayanad as well as Coorg. The monsoon has been weak this year so far, but it is virtually impossible to predict how intense it is going to be in August. If anyone gives you a definitive answer as to whether it would be rainy or not during August this year, take it with a pinch of salt
When planning a trip to these parts from June to August, you have to always account for the fact that you'll most probably encounter rains in the afternoon at least 50% of the days. Plan your visits in the mornings and be prepared to sit in your room and relax in the afternoons / evenings if it rains. The rains in these regions can be quite a wonderful experience too - I personally enjoy sitting out in a balcony or verandah with a drink and enjoy watching it rain cats and dogs !
I have studied in Kozhikode for two years. We used to roam around in even in monsoon on our bikes.
You should not be worried. Kerala is beautiful in Monsoon.
If I were in your shoes, I would give Cochin a miss. You can try something close to kozhikode-wayanad-coorg region, perhaps ooty or mudumalai or even mysore

i would second what Cynic has said above yes! rains are 50% less at some places in south and Kerala especially compared to previous years
but again it doesnt mean that this would be the case in August
Kerala recently see that it rains for few days and then it would be like summer time again , bright and sunny
say for eg: it rained heavily 2, 3, 4th July , but for the past two days no rains at all! it is hot and humid as it is summer
so be prepared for rains ,mostly during nights and an hour or so during the day. it is quite wondeful experience up in the mountains , i am sure you would like it

for your trip from Cochin , i would suggest you to take a day train to Calicut/ Kozhikode , approx 5 & 1/2 hours .Book and A/C coach ticket and this could be taken after you reach Cochin ( first or second day ). from Kozhikode you could take a CAB to Wayanad or buses are available which would take approx 3 &1/2 hours with 14nights / 15 days , you have atleast 5 nights per destinations , which gives you plenty of days and time to see things at a relaxed pace
i would also suggest to check out the option of staying a couple of nights at a beach , check out Bekkal beach or the secluded beaches of Kannur
from Bekkal( Kasargod) or Kannur , you can take your train back to Kozhikode.

Couldn't agree more. Since the OP's main destinations seem to be hills/forests I'd recommend Athirapally/Vazhachal(great to see during monsoons) on the first day itlsef and then straight to Wayanad. While returning from Coorg save 4-5 days to go through Agumbe -> Karkala -> Mangalore -> Kasargod -> Kozhikode. There is a bunch of great places to see on that route. As others have said, it generally rains in the region in the afternoons so do most of the sightseeing from morning and you'll manage to have a good time.
