Cochin to Kovalam

Hi

I will be flying into Cochin in March and want to get to Kovalam in three/four days. I want to see Fort Cochin and do a backwater overnight trip on my way to Kovalam.

Can anyone give me suggestions as the best way to do this.

Thanks

Stay near the Cochin bus station, explore the city on the day of arrival.

Next day spend fully in Fort Kochi by taking the early morning ferry, evening can think of seeing the kathakali make up and performance in Kochi.

Next day morning, leave for Alleppey by bus and once in Alleppey, hop into the zillions of boats at the bay by neogtiating the fare or going to the guys with whom you have already reserved.

After the 24 hour trip, take a train/bus to Trivandrum. Explore the city in the remaining part of the day and head to Kovalam towards evening by Bus/Auto (Its about 13 km from the city center)

How long is the bus journey to Alleppey? Is it to be recommended over the train, which I seem to remember takes about 3 hours?

If I remember it right, the bus journey is less than 90 mins. Though someone can correct me there.. Advantage of bus is that every 15 mins you will find one, and Kerala busses are a bit better than most of the other state transport links..

Thanks for the replies.

Sudheer Poppa I see that you reccommend I stay in Cochin town. Is it not better to stay in Fort Cochin or does the town have more sightseeing options and nightlife.

Thanks

You have better options in Kochi for one and the main reason is that, to catch an early morning bus/train to Alleppey would be much easier logistically if you stay in town. Also it maybe a wee bit difficult to reach your hotel later in the night, if in fort kochi.
