The prepaid taxi rate in Cochin is ridiculously high as compared to many other cities in India.
The charges are on a 'per km' basis. For non-AC the rate is Rs.22 per kilometer and for AC it will be Rs. 24 per kilometer. I traveled from Cochin to my place (90 km) distance in a Cheverloet Tavera AC and they charged me Rs. 2180

There's a perfectly good bus service between Cochin Fort and the airport. I took it in 2012. The bus is air-conditioned and there's space for your luggage. A one-way trip cost me all of seventy Rupees.

Yes i would second that. A/C Bus services are available from the airport to fort Cochin. Kindly consider that before renting a taxi.

How do you expect the taxi to get back to the airport. You have to pay the return fare as well.

If you think thats bad, I tried to book a taxi from my house to the railway station, a distance of 1.2km. I needed the taxi at 3am I was quoted a fare of Rs400 which he later reduced to Rs300.
Lord, Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill because they pissed me off.

Tell him Rs.200, and you'll walk behind the car.

(It's even cheaper to walk behind a bus )

I ended up leaving my car at the station, something which I was not keen on at all.

Travel from Cochin airport to Fort Cochin

Hi,

If you are arriving any time between 6 am to 8.30 pm, you could find Airconditioned Low Floor Airconditioned Buses plying from International Terminal directly to Fort Cochin. Maximum you may have to wait for an hour on most time of the day. It won't cost you not more than 120 rupees and very comfortable too with luggage and drops you at Fort Cochin main Bus stop which is centrally located. Prepaid taxis from Airport are available and should be costing about 700 rupees.

Cheers
Terry

The Hostel offered me to pick me up from the airport for 750 rupees.
Seem absolutely overexpensive to me.

I am grateful for all tips.

Angamally is the nearest station, take a Auto if you have very little luggage, its a short trip,Most long distance tarins stop there
take a train going to Ernakulam, from there take a auto or taxi
people get ripped at CIAL,the Taxis are very expensive,Ernakulam is about 45kms
if its late avoid Autos, and be safe travelling in kerala beyond 8pm,using public transport
not to scare but not the safest of places,so sad as it attracts the most tourist and we hear so many sad stories
have a safe trip

If you are very cost conscious and if you are arriving between morning and 8.30 pm, it is better to take the orange coloured KSRTC low floor air conditioned bus parked in front of the International Terminal. Most of these buses go to Fort Cochin through the bye pass avoiding Ernakulam city. The distance from Airport to Fort Cochin is about 45 km and from Airport to Ernakulam is only 29 Km and a prepaid taxi from the Airport would cost easily around Rs 750 and so the amount your hotel has offered is reasonable. The prepaid taxi cost from Airport to Ernakulam is around Rs 600 which is nearer than Fort Cochin. It is not good idea to go to Angamaly station especially if it is late in the night as you will have to take an auto from Airport to Angally Railway station and then wait for hours to get a train that will only take you to Ernakulam and again you will have to take another auto to get to Fort Cochin. May be you will end up saving maximum of Rs 200 and the trouble for that is not worth it. So it is very simple if you are arriving during day time, look for the Volvo Air conditioned bus which is the cheapest and comfortable even if you have luggage and if you are arriving late in the night accept the offer by your hotel which is very reasonable. Cochin and Kerala in general are comparatively safer than any other place in India if you follow basic precautions any International traveler would take.

Hi guys,

My partner are arriving in Kochi at 22.30pm so are unable to get the bus directly to our accomm in Fort Kochi which I'm a bit gutted about because I've used it several before and it's awesome!

Any idea on up to date prepaid taxi fares to Fort? From looking at the earlier posts it seems to vary a lot over the years ...

In January an AC prepaid from the airport to MG Road in Ernakulam was 900 and some rupees. Fort Kochi is further and involves tolls so is going to be quite a bit more.
