I find the Kerala forum on this website often short on specifics.
We'll be happy for you to correct that when you get back. Feel free.

I find that many resident and non-residents contribute very good information to the board.

If you want better: go find a travel agent.

And pay.

Sorry, I meant no offence really.
IndiaMike is a great India specific site, and the members are ever so helpful.
I apologize to you all if I've inadvertently managed to hurt individual sensibilities.
Thanks for the info posted on this thread.

Nicely said!

Apologies, likewise for a bit of over-sensitivity there. You too will come accross members who expect a travel agent's service without having to pay for it. Makes us react a bit sharpish on occasions.

I really did think the information about Kerala here was good, but you are entitled to your impressions, and to feed them back.

Obviously you do understand that people are trying to help.

I haven't flown into Kochi since they moved the airport, so nothing useful from me, I'm afraid.

Hi Indizen - no problem. Sometimes we tend to get frustrated when we can't find the info we want. Hope you get the info you need from Backpakkers link.

What is the cost of a prepaid taxi from Cochin Domestic airport to Marine Drive

Hello,

I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know how much would it cost to take a prepaid taxi from Cochin domestic airport to Marine Drive in Ernakulam. Also is it easy to get a prepaid taxi or are there long waiting times.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Best Regards.

Smile Pre-paid taxi in Cochin

Last time I did it which was just a few months ago it was Rs.466 but petrol has gone up since then and it might be a bit higher. There has never been a wait. Just go to the counter before going outside, tell them where you want to go, pay your money, get a receipt, and the taxi driver assigned to you will join you from the outside having seen you make the booking through the opposite window! It's no hassle at all.

Hi CMS - thanks so much for the information. Yeah petrol prices were increased by Rs. 5 a litre few months back so I am expecting the cost to be slightly higher.

I have another question but it might sound a bit silly. Do the taxi drivers in Kochi expect a tip even if you take a prepaid taxi? Reason I ask is I am from Mumbai and everytime i take a taxi from the Mumbai airport, those guys expect me to pay more even if I have already paid at the prepaid counter.

No. Sometimes I do give a bit more if they've been especially helpful or boosted heavy luggage but normally nothing. If you're looking for "cheap", you can get an auto to the Angamali railway station for about Rs.60, take the train to Ernakulam Junction, and either walk from there (depending on where on Marine Drive you're going) or take another auto from there. Be prepared to haggle with the Cochin auto drivers as it's a miracle to find one willing to use his meter! Good Luck!

Interesting thread....so does it make more sense to take a pre-paid taxi from airport to Ft Cochin? I have asked my hotel in Ft Cochin to have a driver waiting for us at the airport....is that going to be gobs more expensive than a pre-paid taxi or just a little more expensive? I didn't ask what the car service would cost. Thanks in advance....M

Hi Mordeep,

Sorry but I can't help you with Ft. Cochin. It's a LONG way around (over the bridge) from Marine Drive (to where I've taken my pre-paid taxis) and I have no idea what the pre-paid fare (from the airport) would be.

Cochi taxis

We are also heading to the Fort area and have been given a price of 760R from the airport. I also located the internet site that gave a 635R price, but the info was posted in 2006 ... the difference is only about 2.50 US, so its not a bank breaker!

Arrived in Cochin today (07/12/08) and the pre-paid taxi ppl said that rates increased only last week and that the website doesn't reflect that yet. From the airport to Ernakulum (I was heading towards the main jetty) was 511 rupees.
