| Hi all again. I have seen 4 resorts in Kovalam I am interested in for my November trip: The Leela Kovalam The Travancore Heritage The Surya Samudra Beach Resort and The Taj Green Cove Resort It seems that they are all located in diferent beaches/places. Can you please tell me which is situaded in the best beach and , at the same time , which is better located near restaurants and shopping? Thank you in advance |

| I stayed at the Travencore last November...And although i loved the accomodation and landscape of this property...i don't think u would be impressed with the beach, and there was very limited shopping in the area...Although it was no problem to take a taxi into Kovalam!! I loved the cottage we stayed in though... ![]() |

| I think Leela offers the best view and feel... Also I would expect them to be most professionally managed of the lot. Surya Samudra would be close second. I have not really seen Taj yet, but if they have developped the backwater nearby, it would be an interesting spot. But shall let someone who stayed there, commment on it..

| the taj green is very nice, it has its 'own' beach(!!??!!) which is ok but the sea is rather rough (this is at samudra beach) the food is good, service excellent and facilities and gardens are to a high standard. BUT have to say, the Leela does it every time for me! and it is near to the popular eves and lighthouse beach with its shops and restaurants and it also has its own private beach, guess you pays your money and takes your choice. hope this helps ![]()

| Travancore Heritage is not directly in Kovalam, it is a little bit more South in a village called Chowara. There are several Ayurveda resorts there, like Somatheeram and Manaltheeram. The beach is more quiet than the three beaches of Kovalam. I can't give you advice on service and food, as I was only a visitor and didn't stay as a guest. |

| Another one outside Kovalam that I can give a plug for, having stayed there, is Thapovam. Very nice location, beautiful place. Because the German guy who runs it doesn't want to go in for stuff like AC and pools, it'll never earn many 'stars' --- but if you can live without those facilities it is great. Also has 'private'* beach *there is no such thing in India, really, but there are those beaches that are a little more difficult for the general public to access. |

| Thanks so much to all. I think the Leela will be my best option then, even though a bit more expensive than the others but worth the splurge ![]() |

| The only one of its kind | Big properties iam sorry to poin out that both Taj green cove and Lee is facing toubles ,because they Aquire Public property and restrict the movement of fisher populations on their daily livelyhood. now the private beaches are open to public |

| I dont believe there is a real private beach anywhere in India.. Leela had more or less a semi private beach where the guard used to keep an eye on 'trouble'.. But kiran is the on site correspondant, so more realtime reporting ![]() |

| I think 'security staff make others feel unwelcome' is equivalent to private. ![]() My understanding, but I can't support it, is that the shore cannot be bought, therefore it cannot be private. |
