Ayurveda Clinic recommendation in Kerala
Hello,
A friend/client of mine would like to go to south india and get pancha karma treatment in a relaxing place for a few months. He has some severe nervous system issues. I have been to Kovallam and know of a few places there, but I think it would be too touristy. I was thinking of Varkala which is close by, a more quiet beach, but I am not sure if there are any good ayurveda clinics, more than just for tourists. Any recommendations or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Dan |

And you definitely cannot get a Pancha Karma treatment for a few months . It takes a few days at the most. Otherwise too harsh. But perhaps you mean nice nourishing oil-massages, good food, doing some yoga and relaxing under coconut-trees on a nice beach-side... ![]() |

One of my yoga teachers from Tamil Nadu told us once that with the new found interest of westerners in ayurveda, some "ayurvedic" places in India are doing pancha karma to anyone who asks for it. why? for the $$$$$.... he said that back in the day, pancha karma was used only for sick people or who the reputable ayurvedic doctor felt really needed it, after a good consultation and analysis. he said that now, anyone who reads about pancha karma in a yoga magazine thinks it's for them and runs off to india looking for it, when in fact pancha karma should be used judiciously, because it IS a powerful treatment not recommended for everyone. |

The more serious resorts will have a qualified ayurvedic doc who will be able to prescribe more than just massage.
But many people who are doing their 'treatment' as part of a holiday will not want to go as far as enemas and purgatives. Those who do might be better advised to spend time in a clinic/hospital.
