Athirappally Waterfalls
Athirappally Waterfalls
Athirappally Waterfalls is a magnificent sight in Kerala. Located in the Sholayar range, 78 kms from Kochi, the waterfall is 80 feet high.
The waterfall is the source for Chalakudy River which carries great biodiversity value.
There are more than 80 species of fresh water fishes in the River and more than 300 species of flowering plants in the surrounding area.

After the waterfall experience we went to Allepey for the famed houseboat experience.

Nice pics of the falls. Is it from a trip in January?
I am planning an 8-day trip in last week of Feb and want to include Athirapally in the list.
1) Is it worth to see the falls in Feb?
2) Is the following route do-able with comfort in a day?
Thrissur->Athirapally->Munnar
Else I might go with:
Thrissur->Cochin->Munnar

Thrissur to Athirapally is around 60 KM, Cochin to Athirapally is around 70 KM and Athirapally to Munnar is around 50 KM
so Thrissur - Cochin -Athirapally- Munnar would be fine

50 kms for Athirapally-Munnar doesn't sound right. Don't you need to come back from there to Kalady / Perumbavoor in order to go to Munnar ? Or is there some shorter route via Sholayar or Valpara or some other place that connects to the Marayoor Munnar Road ? (and if so - how good it is ? Would probably be passing through dense forest) If one has to come via Perumbavoor, it'd probably be more like 150 kms.
sorry, my mistake. Its 150 Kms for Athirapally-Munnar (shortest route is Kalady – Perumbavoor – Kothamangalam-Neriamangalam-Munnar)
waterfalls/cherai beach/houseboat
i want to see the athirapilly waterfalls, cherai beach and alappuzha house boat. I have 3 nights and 4 days in hand. Should I do the beach first foloowed by the waterfalls and houseboat or vice-versa???
I have 5 nights and 6 days in Kerala. I am sure about Cochin and Munnar and would like to include Athirapally falls. How long it will take for a Cochin - Athirapally - Munnar trip?
@nanya
Thanks Concern. How long it will take to reach Munnar from Athirappally?
Quote:
with the evening traffic , if you are doing Cochin - Athirappally - Munnar , you keep it as 5 hours to reach Munnar from Athirappally , woth stop over for photo opportunities and refreshments on the way
Quote:
Even 5 hours may be an underestimate - you can probably just about achieve it if you don't stop anywhere on the way and your driver is a speedy guy. Any time spent at scenic spots on the way (plus refreshment breaks) will be additional. When driving in Kerala, it is very difficult to achieve an average speed of anything over 40 kmph even if the road conditions are excellent. And also remember that the last 30-40 kms to Munnar is going to be on curvy mountain roads, so you'd average even less on that stretch.
Thanks Neenu and Cynic. I have come up with the below plan for my trip. I am still not sure about the plan for 16th as after calling a couple of houseboat guys I was informed that the route for the boat rides will be restricted due to monsoon. So, wondering if I should skip the houseboat in which case I can proceed to Athirapally on that day.
