are you for scuba....
Hi all,
Will be in Kerala for a couple of weeks in November and wondered if was any scuba diving going on there? If any one knows of any scuba trips or local hubs and a hire shops I would love to know about them. Also any information regarding what generally the diving is like there would also be very appreciated..... Thanx |

There will probably be some outfits here and there, but I think for diving you should really head out to the Lakshadweep (expensive) or Andaman islands... None of India's mainland coasts seem to be particularly renowned for it, with no coral reefs to speak of, and generally poor sight reported.

I agree with Machadinha the Keralan coast is not good for diving or snorkelling. No reef and poor visibility plus strong currents in places. Lakshadweep and Andamans would be your best bet but expensive. Kadmat in the Lakshadweep Islands is cheaper than Bangaram but if you go by ferry (much cheaper than the flight) you will lose 24 hours each way getting there and back which might be too much time out of your two weeks.

Yes; plus my understanding is on the Lakshadweep foreigners are bound to certain islands that offer only expensive resort packages, is that correct?
I think the Andamans can be done cheaper in a DIY way. The boat ride there is another few days each way & reportedly none too comfortable or at least in the lower classes though. One can fly however. |

Bangaram, Agatti and Kadmat are open to foreign tourists and I understand that Minicoy may be also. Khadmat is much cheaper than Bangaram Rs6000 per night for 2 persons as opposed to Rs17000 per night for 2 persons. Kadmat is not as up market as Bangaram but the diving is as good if not better.
