6 days in Kerala! Help required
Hi I am spending 6 days in Kerala in February. I have decided to go to Kovalam (staying at Travancore Heritage) and from there book a house boat tour along the back waters for 1-2 days. I read the post by Beach and it was v helpful except I dont know if it is possible to do a backwater tour from Kovalam. Also, I would like to stay on the houseboat (so an overnight tour)and have read about tours where you are taken fishing and have your own chef to cook the catch etc.. I would need also to return to Kovalam. Can anyone help? also I heard there is an elephant tour/sanctuary very nearby to Kovalam where you can go elephant trekking.. I have a lack of time in Kerala and so need all the advice to plan as much as I can from here - albeit as cheaply as possible! thanks!

trip to kerala
Hi angelyn, as far as I am aware you will need to travel to Kollam
to do a backwater cruise. If you look on the map you will see Kollam, used to be called Quilon, you should be able to catch a train to Kollam. Request your hotel to arrange train booking for you, would be the easiest way. Happy Travelling vandy ![]() |

I wonder is there any houseboats operating from Kollam. I belive that Alumkadave is the south most point for houseboat cruise.

kerala
Hi angelyn, the train should only take about 2-3hours.
Yes the houseboat can definetly return to Kollam after o'night cruise. DO NOT book houseboat, have a good look around at houseboats when you get there. Prices vary, but you should get a decent 2 bedroom,air/con one for approx 5000rps max, this will include all meals & bottled water. rgds - vandy ![]() |
