Hi, We just booked our tickets for 3 weeks in September, and would love to get some itinerary recommendations. We fly in and out from Trivandrum, and were thinking of doing a small tour around from Trivandrum to Kanyakumari-Madurai-Kodaikanal-Munar-Kochin-Backwathers area-Varkla and back to trivandrum and then home. I'm a bit worried though from long bus travels in the mountains with a small, not-so-patience child. ![]() We travel on a budget, but willing to pay more to save time on the roads, and we adore indian trains! Would love to hear your ideas on the above intinerary, on how much time to spend at each place, and any other suggestion or insight you may have!

I would suggest to take a train to kanyakumari. In trivandrum you can look around the city there are few palaces that you can see . Kovalam beach . Sree padmanaburam temple. For nice kerala food either you can enjoy double the price near the beach or come to city and have lots and pay less. If you need any help regarding trivandrum feel free to ask .

Kodaikanal is way out of the way. As you like trains, I suggest train to Madurai and then Train from Madurai to Cochin(Ernakulam) Considering you have a young one in tow, I Strongly reccomend Hiring a car & driver from Cochin. My itinery suggestion from Cochin is,Munnar - Thekady(Kumily)- Kumarakom or Allepey - Kollam - Varkala - Trivandrum. There are a lot of advantages of having your own car & driver. You can stop where and when you like and local sightseeing in each place will be Included in Hire cost. Allepey also has a nice beach. vandy ![]()
