3 weeks in Kerala and flights from Glasgow
Hi all
I have come up with an itinerary for 3 weeks in Kerala based on all the wonderful suggestions on this site and from members. I was just wondering if people could give me more suggestions for things to do/see given the extra time I'll have in each place. I would also be grateful for feedback, have I pitched the time right or will I have too long in some places? Any ideas/suggestions/tips gratefully received. Itinerary: arrive early am, 2 nights in Munnar 3 nights Thekkady - Tiger trail at Periyar 6 nights Backwaters - 1 night eco houseboat, canoe trip, ayurveda 2 nights Cochin 6 nights Bangaram 1 night Cochin leave :-( Also, thinking of flying Qatar airways glasgow-london-kochi but some tight connections. Does anyone have experience of this? Alternative would be Emirates glasgow-kochi, kochi-manchester then train. Thanks |

kerala holidays
Hi Blackcat
When you have 3 weeks to spend in Kerala, you could consider something more. I suggest the itinerary like this. Are you travelling to Munnar on the same day of arrival? It takes 5 hours drive to Munnar. Is n’t it better to have an introduction to kerala in Cochin and then leave for Munnar? 3 nights in Thekkady – Perhaps, one night in Lake Palace and 2 nights with Periyar Tigertrail could be better. 6 nights in the backwaters – Depends on the location. Coconut Island in Trichur is a private island designed for two persons only. Nice country side, canoe trips, cycling, Ayurveda and elephant rides. Then fly to Bangaram – then 1 night in Cochin. |

Thanks Malayalam
I was planning to travel to Munnar on my arrival as I will be arriving early in the morning and thought this would make best use of the time - if I arrive at 4am, I should have time to see some things along the way and still arrive in Munnar in the morning. I also thought that this might give me some time to settle into India before hitting the city. What do you think? Do you think Cochin would be better for orientation? I could also fly straight to Bangaram on arrival I suppose, would mean less time carrying around the lovely things I'm going to buy in Munnar/Cochin/etc! I'm not sure of the driving times between all the various areas- could I get to Kochi from the backwaters in time for the 10am flight to Lakshadweep? Also, how long would it take me to get from the backwaters to the airport? I put in the last night in Cochin for this reason but may need to be there about 1 in the morning! I chose 3 nights in Thekkady/Kumily for 2 nights Tiger Trail and another night to see the area and maybe do the bamboo raft tour as well. Do you think this will be enought time? I believe there's an elephant experience park near here, or is it nearer Munnar? Thanks for the tip on Coconut Island - the reason I chose 6 nights backwaters was to have some decent time at ayurveda. In addition to this I plan a canoe trip and an overnight eco houseboat. I also fancy the ferry trip from Alappuzha to Kollam which I believe is 8 hours, night in Kollam then train back if I can. Would you recommend this? Do you think they'll be enough to do with this and the ayurveda or might I get bored? |
