Wireless in Mysore

I've been asked to find a hotel with wireless internet access in Mysore. My search led me to the startling information that the entire city is a wireless hotspot. Is this true? If so, has anyone had the opportunity to put the network to the test? Any information would be appreciated.

My information comes from

http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/loc/9/2560379.php

and

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/a...ow/1202647.cms

There are other news articles from the same time period, which say more or less the same thing. I can't find anything more recent about how the network has been maintained and where the best places to get connectivity are (or, indeed, whether the whole thing has been scrapped).
I was in Mysore less than a year ago, but I didn't have this information at the time and didn't have my laptop with me, so I didn't test it out. I also didn't see hoards of people in cafes tapping away on their laptops....

one company attempted to make mysore a wireless zone, but as with most ventures in india, it came and went without success.

most major hotels are wifi zones, including metropol and southern star on the high end, and the mid-range new hotel ginger (1000-1500rs/night) run by the taj group.
