Which place is close to Dubare and Bylakuppe?

Dear IM'ers,
Where should one stay in order to have least difficulties in visiting the Tibetian Monastry and Dubare Elephant camp. Madikeri, Kushalnagar are two famous places...would it be madikeri itself??

Yes , You are right ! Madikeri is the best place to stay if you do not want to go through the "Permit" process to explore tibetan Settlements area ! . Madikeri is around 40 kms from Tibetan Settlements and Mysore is around 90 kms from Tibetan settlements. Same police verification process applies to Kushal Nagara Lodges[ 14 kms from Tibetan settlements] / Koppa Lodges too [ 8 kms from Tibetan settlements] ! Hence Madikeri is best !

I would suggest Tata Coffee plantation guest house at Polibetta, they charges are almost same as those of home stays but are much better then them.Their guest house is right inside the forest, food is good-they even serve delicious Coorgi food, staff is courteous, you can also see their plantation for free.Best option would be to book cab in the morning and you can easily cover both these place and come back in the evening.Plan visit to Dubhare in the morning as you can then participate in day to day activities, like bathing elephants, feeding them and if you are lucky you can even enjoy the ride.

I did not stayed in any home stay / Plantation resorts in Coorg District till now ! . If you are ok with Just very nice views + Walking Trail over the side of "Raja's seat" and also secure, Calm and within your budget range, you could try out " Hotel Mayura Valleyview[ Government of Karnataka hotel] and that's 1000 Rs / Night for Double Bed room with TV & 24 Hours Hot water ! I did stayed there and that's a nice one ! .The hotel is walkable from "Raja's seat" and around 1 km to Madikeri Bus stand ! And Please be aware, this place is not a "Plantation Resort" or "Homestay" !

Hope this helps !!

hey all of you, thanks a lot for the suggestions...

Initially i was wanting to be in a coffee plantation, but thought there were no homestays close-by. Then i found a couple of them, and while i was interested with them, comes the suggestion about Tata coffee plantation guest house. I originally planned to stay in dhyan's den and then from the pics, forest flower looked nice. I think i will go to one of these.

Velu, special thanks for your suggestions! I think i will keep Maurya for next year when i want to do a motorbike trip around Coorg.

Additionally i have a few more Qs:
1. Is there a website for Tata coffee plantation guest house?
2. Are there buses directly from Bandipur to Madikeri, or should one go to Mysore and then go to Madikeri from there.
3. Dasaprakash in Mysore, is that a nice place to stay.

Buses from Bandipur to Madikeri - Negative.
Bandipur - Mysore - Madikeri.
Mysore Madikeri road is awesome now till Kushalnagar(80% of the journey).

Dasprakash at Yadavgiri extension in Mysore, yes it's a good place to stay. 2-3 kms from Railway station and in one of the very good localities of Mysore.

Already Trek_Guy & Nandagopal shared the info ! Just to add-on:-

1)From Tata Plantation Resort, "Tibetan Settlements" a bit Far !And You may need to have your own Vehicle to commute ! .Travelling by bus is possible but it means getting 2 to 3 buses [ I mean changing buses] to reach "Tibetan Settlements " and bus frequency is not so great from Polibeta to Hunsur [ From where you can take another bus to Koppa [Nearest bus stop for Tibetan Settlements]

2)Again, Bandipur NP to Madikeri, the easiest way is to board Mysore bus followed by another bus to Madikeri. It might be a bit circuitous BUT by public transportation , that's the best way . For Private Transportation, There is a shorter route thou !

Try the Vinayaka lodge near the Madikeri Bustand, just 2-3 walk from both the private and KSRTC busstand.Very reasonable too.

Read my earlier post about Coorg My Coorg Escapade
