Weekend excursions from Mysore

Hi,

I have a free weekend coming up (can leave by friday afternoon, and don't have to be back till monday morning), and would like to go somewhere (not Bangalore!!)...

I have already planned a trip to Somnathpur, Shravanbelgula, Belur, Coorg, Hampi over the next two weekends, so need to do something else this weekend. Any ideas where I could go? I can travel by rail/bus/car(taxi) etc. (whatever is reqd.)..

thanks!

PS: Have also visited Mahabalipuram & Tanjore, so those are out as well

Nagarhole National Park / Kabini is one ideal option. Can see Elephnat heards near the river at this time of the year. Also the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary.

The bird sanctuary mentioned above is a must, in my view.

Ooty (and beyond) is not on the OP's list

An interesting days outing can be had at Bylakuppe.

But you can't stay over unless you have a restricted area permit or are a local.

Cheers

From Mysore, a 2 Day excursion options , I could think of the following(And quite a few of them I already did)

1) Visiting Nagarhole NP, followed by a homestay at Kutta , Next day Visit iruppu falls followed by Tholpetty WLS and return to Mysore

2) Visiting Nagarhole NP,Followed by Trekking up Brahmigirihill range (Either from Iruppu Falls End- Karnataka end OR From Thirunelli temple - KErala ) -- Need to get Forest dept permission and a guide will accompany you for the trek and night stay up in the hills in Tent -- My Team members tried out this and enjoyed a lot but it's tiresome

3) Direct to Kalpetta (Wayanad- Kerala) followed by a visit to Soochipara water falls (You could see the photos in our IM under my id) and Chembra peak -Night rest ; Next day Visit pookot lake, Vythiri and Lakkidi peak view & if interested visit Kuruwadweep island and return to Mysore / Bangalore

4) Visiting Srirangapatna, Ranganathittu , Melkote ;; Stay NExt Day Shravanabelagola and return to base

5) Visiting Bandipur NP, Mudumalai NP followed by a night stay at any resorts near Masinagudi / Teppakadu. Next day do a trek inside the Nilgiri Mountain range (Invariably all resorts has this treaks from 1 hour upto 5 hours) & once we did 1 hour trek from a resort called Bear Mountain (Resort is ok sort of) BUT the trek is good and we saw a Forest stream and a waterefalls

6) Mysore - Bandipur NP- ooty (Easiest and preferable for family / old / kids)

7) Mysore - Himavad Gopalasamy betta (Just 11 kms before Bandipur NP) and worth a vist if you could start very early from mysore (Around 5 am) , this hills is too good and a short trekking can be done on the hills (Without forest dept permission ) and for a long trek , forest dept permission is required ( Part of Bandipur Tiger reserve)

8) Mysore - Kabini (JLR)

And lots more and If you could specify what's ur interest( Just leisure , Sigtht seeing, Trekking ,adventorous or wildlife), I could be more specific !

Hope this helps
