visiting Coorg from Bangalore
My husband and I would like to spend 2 nights in Coorg but we do not have a car. We would like to stop at Bylakuppe for a few hours on the journey.
What is the best way of doing the journey by public transport? And would it be possible to hire a car+driver in Madikeri for sight-seeing? Or can you recommend a hotel/homestay which offers a guide to show us around? Thanks. |

You could get a Bus/ Train to Mysore and from Mysore, you have enough buses to Madikeri / Mangalore. You could board any of the buses and get down at a place called "Koppa" rather than Bylekuppe and it's hardly 2 kms in-between these bus stops. Once you are in Koppa, a Arch and Sing board will be there [ LEft Side ] indicating the road to "Golden Temple / Tibetan Settlements". You could get an auto to visit the golden temple. Not sure on the price of auto ride as i went on My car and there are "N' number of autos plying in this routs with loads of Tibetan people ! As you have only 2 Nights, you could spend 1 1/2 hours in golden temple and Catch "ANOTHER Auto" back [Asking the Auto to wait for 2 hours is not required as you have "N' number of autos in this route] !.
If you want to have good Food, you could Hire the Auto from Golden temple directly to Kushal Nagara [ Which is 4 kms from Koppa]. From Kushal Nagara, you could board another bus to Madikeri. We stayed in Hotel Mayura Valley view [ Government of Karnatakahotel] - 1000 rs / Night 2 bedded just next to "Raja's seat" on the same road and the views , Location are excellent!. You could hire a local Taxi very well for the local trip [ Remember you could Visit Raja's seat by walk itself]. Hope this helps and if you need any specific info, Please post ! |

What Velu Said is Right , I second that ...
I would however recommend you stay in a HomeStay (There are plenty), Private Taxi/Cabs are available Coorg (Med) you will need to hire one as most sightseeing places are far apart. It would also be wise to rent a Car all the way from Mysore (or even bang) , Then you could squeeze in nagarhole , dubare and other places. |
