Is it possible to travel from Bangalore airport direct to Mysore (not passing through Bangalore)? I imagine only in a taxi. If so, any idea how much this might cost? It seems that getting into Bangalore only to catch a bus and then getting out again will take hours!

No direct buses to Mysore as far as I know; would like to hear on it though. It would not be very hard to get to bus stop in Bangalore and change over to another bus - there will be one leaving every 10 minutes.

If it has to be taxi(you will still have to go through a little bit of Bangalore), expect to pay Rs.15 per kilometer when you hire a taxi from airport. A travel agent somewhere outside would charge you Rs.7-8. And you pay for round trip, always. Mysore would be approximately 180km from airport. So you pay 15*2*180.

Thanks - OK, that is quite expensive! How long will it take to go into Bangalore to the bus stand, and will there still be buses (flight arrives at 5pm)?

Hi Suiko,

From BIA , Taxi might take around 1 1/2 hours to Bangalore Majestic Bus Stand [Kempe Gowda Bus stand].. If your flight arrives at 5 pm & after all the formalities and the travel time in cab, in all probability you might board Mysore Bus around 8.30pm .. Bangalore to Mysore Volvo A/C buses are plenty in Day time and in the late evenings , it's other way around.. Only Normal Buses are available but you could try out with Volvo Buses [They will run to Longer Distances and Conductor might not welcome Mysore passengers but still you could give a try] [ Normal bus I mean KSRTC Bus types "Karnataka Sarige" and "Mysore Mallige" .. Both 3 + 2 normal Seat with No Push-Back and with 15 minutes stop at Maddur Bus stand and these buses will take around 3.30 hours to cover the distance whereas Volvo A/C will take around 2.5 Hours ] but Bangalore - Mysore road is in Excellent condition !!

In All probability you might reach Mysore around midnight by this way ....

For BIA to Majetic , you could browse http://www.airliftonline.com/ which is kind-of shared taxi If you are on budget ...

Hope this helps & If you need more info Please Post !!

Velu

The other option is bus/taxi to city train station (one of Airport buses terminate at adjacant bus station - refer http://www.bmtcinfo.com/english/bial.html - route 09) and then catch train. ( I dont think taxi would be any/much faster then bus)

note that a couple of above do not run everyday -- ref to http://www.erail.in/ for fuller details

Yes it is still going to be min 5 hrs - excessive but !!!) depending on connections.
I provided some details (which I cant locate right now) of a direct Mysore - Bang Airport bus to N Kumar (poster here) and he is trying to check this out. But the article I sent him indicated one (trail) bus per day leaving mysore something like 4am -- no indication what time it returns ex bangalore. I wouldn't hold out to much hope for that option at times that suit you.

Hope this assists you.

Not a chance!

Bus time is 1.15 - 1.30 hours maybe more at that time of evening.

6517 MANGALORE EXP SBC 20.55 MYS 23.40

is the one to go for. You can book at http://irctc.co.in/cgi-bin/bv60.dll/...rvices/home.do

India Rail official booking site.. if you have not booked train in india before you will find process interesting/slow but it does work (when you consider size of train system that is an amazing feat.. something china havnt mastered yet!)...In terms of payment i use citibank gateway (doesnt matter which bank your cc is with). Any questions please search this site which contains much info on trin booking from overseas --- or ask me.

I assume you mean take taxi to train station. (If you mean take taxi to Mysore - of course you will get there much faster then either train option but at a cost - see other replies)

Arrival time - 5pm .... I think it would be miracle if you could get out of plane and airport and get to station, buy ticket (how long this takes im not sure) and catch the 18.15 (remembering that train starts in Bangalore so likely to depart on time). What if your plane is even 15mins late?

I will let a local person comment on Christmas Day impact (if any)on traffic in Bangalore.

If you were not wanting to book train in advance then off course you can try for it ... but I think you will be on that 20.55....

Also to be honest not much difference getting into Mysore 9.10 or 1140 ---if you pre-book hotel there....
I'd say aim of 20.55 and relax and you prob have time to enjoy dinner before boarding train if you are fortunate!
