train Mangalore-Hassan

Hello,

Is the train between Mangalore and Hassan actually running. I remember I read about it a while ago and now w're travelling south from Goa and want to go to Belur/ Halebid so it would be nice if we could use the new train.
Please let me know what the present situation is.
Thanks a lot in advance,
greetings,
Mea

Yes it is, no time to look up the timetables, if I remember right there was supposed to be a daytime and an overnight train, though I have no idea if both are running.

Have a look in the 'Train Info' thread below, you will find details of how to search for trains.

The route is said to be very scenic, so if the daytime train is an option, you should take that train, (esp. as the journey isn't long enough for an overnight trip)

There is only one train running between Mangalore & Hassan(Atleast Express trains - Not sure whether there is any passenger train thou) but this is a night train which starts at Mangalore 19:45 hrs and reaching Hassan at 01:00 hrs (250 kms)which continues upto Bangalore Via Mysore. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the info
Does anybody know if passenger trains are on the "trainwebsite"? or do you just have to go to the station to find out?
The other train will arrive at a horrible time, so probably we'll have to take the bus.

Crea, I am almost sure there is no other train (Even Passenger) between Mangalore & Hassan and yes, it's better to give a try @ mangalore Railway Station on this. And in bus too, check the timings as Shiradi Ghat is "CLOSED" --( The main NH 48 road between hassan and Mangalore) and Majority of Bangalore- Mangalore buses run via Mysore-Madikeri and anyway quite a few still run via charamadi Ghat which is also supposed to be in PAthetic condition! So be Prepared for a "Rough" journey ahead.

Hope this helps

Hi,

A little update:
We managed to take the bus from Mangalore to Hassan. (there goes lots of busses, maybe one each half an hour). The bus took a road a little more to the North, which ment that we surpassed Belur. This was good for us because we wanted to stay there.
The road wasn't to bad, only a short distance was very potholed but it was a very scenic trip.
Didn't check out the trains, so don't know if there is a passengertrain.
greetings,
Mea

We are also now looking into the possibilities of travelling around Mysore, Hassan and Mangalore.

I have found information for travelling by bus and train between Mysore and Hassan but it seems to travel from Hassan by day, the only option is bus?

Secondly, i don't seem to be able to find any information on how to get to Jog Falls from Hassan. if anyone can help we plan to be there mid July.

Thanks.
