| Train info needed - Mumbai-Guntakal-Hospet-Hampi I know there are 7-8 trains going to Guntakal from Mumbai daily. What is the best train to take,s o that I can get a connecting train from Guntakal to Hospet. What are the train nos. for these trains. I am not getting tickets on the Chalukya to go via Hubli. So I am looking up this alternative. If it fails, I will take the bus, but go to Hampi I will this time around. ![]() Last edited by machadinha; Jan 3rd, 2007 at 17:30.. I've looked in the past for good connections and never found them, I think one train gets there at about 3 in the morning then there is a passenger train (unreservad 2nd class) a few hours later for the longish journey to Hospet. If you want me to JUST answer your specific questions I will, if you want me to find an alternative way to get there by train, I'll need more info. | |

| Steven Knew I could count on you for a quick reply. Thanks. We are group of 7 and some in the group are not inclined to spend money for the flight ticket (only available on Air deccan ) to Hubli. Anyway as you know in India contacts work. We have been told to book our tickets on the Chalukya ( and they will be confirmed in the VIP quota). So am keeping my fingers crossed. Can't wait to see Hampi after reading about it for so long. Thanks again. Re the train connections for small towns), I have realized that is is better to have the various zonal railway timetables and cross look up. My dad used to do that a long time ago. now I don't even keep a tt at home But now I know how useful they are. |

Watch out with the timings in the zonal timetables, there have just been many changes in train times for many Express trains, I'd guess the passenger trains may have been forced to fit around the new times, these changes only happened a month ago and are only detailed in timetables from December 2006. | |

| Hi LadyVet, There are a lot of trains going but not many connections to the trains that leave from Mumbai as most of them reach after the train is supposed to leave Guntakal for Hospet. I remember taking the bus at about 5pm from Hospet to reach Mumbai at 7am but don't know what time it is for the journey from Mumbai to Hospet. It was a nice coach so pretty comfortable. Not too expensive though it could have been cheaper on the train and more comfortable too. One option would be to take the Mumbai CST - Bangalore Udyan Express that leaves CST at 08:05 and reaches Guntakal at 23:35 and then take the early morning train from Guntakal at 04:10 to arrive at 06:23 at Hospet. Also there is another train on the other days when it leaves at 06:05 from Guntakal and arrives at 08:40 at Hospet. The other option is to take the train to Goa and then from there go to Hospet by train or bus. Hope this helps. Now I am really envious of you going to Hampi!!! Hope you have a nice time out there. In Hampi, the Padma Guest House is the best place to stay at a cheap, clean and good place run by a very nice, helpful lady. Cheers, Aadil.

| On second thoughts if there are seven of you it might be a bit difficult to accomodate all of you at Padma's Guest House so the KSTDC Hotel Mayura Bhuvaneshwari at Kamalapura will be the ideal choice. Though it is a bit away from all the action in Hampi it is in a secluded spot with a lot of quiet and serene surroundings and you can always hire a car or bicycles to roam around the area. The later is what I would recommend but even walking is fine for some of the areas. And please do spend at least three to five days there to take in all the sights. I am sure you will enjoy your stay there and come back with a lot of great pictures too. If you are interested in a conference on the Art and Archaeology of Vijayanagara then you may see the details on a post I had put up sometime ago on the Mumbai forum. Do take a look at Beach's post on Hampi. If you need any books about Hampi please feel free to contact me and take a look at my collection of art and travel books on Hampi. Cheers, Aadil. |

| Maha Guru Member | you can try using this search engine. IndiaGroove trainfinder mind you it's in beta mode and will break if you look at it funny. the city database isn't yet complete so you may find metro to metro searches not bringing up all the station combos for a given city. if anyone is familiar with metro stations and would like to help flesh out the database let me know! |

| Fantastic Shakti! You did it! ![]() One thing: it uses port 3000, pretty uncommon. Maybe you want to change that. Otherwise, can't wait to see the full version! Just did a test run on a route I was recently looking for, perfect results alright it looks like. Isn't it time for a major announcement then?

| Maha Guru Member | Thanks everyone! My wife and I are sitting here with big smiles on our faces! This site has been a long time coming, many nights working into the wee hours. steven_ber, I'll make a new thread soon. I've contacted my hosting provider to remove the :3000 portion of the URL, a remnant from last nights transferring of the domain name. Thanks for again for the enthusiasm folks! |
