The Viceroy, Mysore - Please avoid this Hotel
I stayed in this hotel a few days back and it was a terrible stay.
First of all they duped me by showing me a different room and charging for a different room. They have two types of double bed rooms (Executive @ 1575/night & Luxury @ 1875/night). Before checking in, I had asked for the Executive double bed room. They showed us the room and we told it's fine. But later at the time of filling the check-in form, the reception staff told me that the rate is 1875. I told him that you had given me the Executive room. But he was not ready to agree and told me that in the Executive room the beds are separate. So, i was left with no option. Tell me, where do you get double bed rooms with the beds separated. I mean this could be the case with a Single bed room with extra bed but DEFINITELY not with a double bed room. We felt cheated. However, we let it go and chose to stay in the Luxury Room deciding not to spoil our mood. But that was not the end of the story. Their LUXURY room had lots of issues: 1) The phone connection was not working. We had to go down to the reception for every little thing. The staff didn't even try to fix the phone. 2) They had a split AC and remote was not provided. We ended up switching off the AC for the night because there was no way to regulate it. 3) The bathroom was dirty. wash basin was broken, door lock was defective. the ceiling had seepage and to top it all we spotted a couple of insects inside the bathroom. 4) They sell their rooms by saying that you'll get a beautiful view of Mysore Palace but from the room you'll be able to see only trees (that obstruct the view of palace) The restaurant was equally bad. They serve water in Aquafina bottles. Now, everybody knows that the Mineral Water bottles should not be reused and so it should be crushed after use. But in the Viceroy Hotel - sab chalta hai... you'll find a lot of items in the menu, but when you'll ask for it they'll say its not available. At the time of checking out, they asked me to sign an empty discount form. I asked what is it... you haven;t given me any discount so why should i sign it. They tried to give some stupid reasons like it is required to know how much tax has been charged... but the details of taxes are anyways there in the receipt. I didn;t sign that form and strongly told them not to mislead / cheat the customers. Overall it was a terrible stay. Since we had to stay for just one day, we somehow held to it but I would strongly suggest people who are going to Mysore to avoid this Hotel. you'll get many better options in similar range. |

Sorry for your trouble but if the room you are shown is not the room you are given then the deal is basically severed. Do not accept it - raise hell - speak directly to the Manager - jump up on the Managers desk - yank his tie - and if that doesn't work - just find another hotel.

I agree with your suggestion. And I would have liked to change the Hotel. But we came to this hotel at around 9:45 in night after a very tiring day and we had to checkout the next morning at around 9:00.
So, i thought we'll somehow manage. But even this short stay turned out to be a long ordeal for us... |

The Viceroy seems to get a thumbs up in the Indiamike hotel guide and is recommended in the other major travel guides.
This may well have been an isolated incident. I would suggest you post your review in the hotel guide section - that way it is available for all to see with ratings/comparisons from others and becomes more fair for the prospective occupant and the hotel as well. http://www.indiamike.com/reviews/sho...hp/product/206 |

After ine bad night, one just wants to move on and away from a place...
The more people contribute to the Indiamike Hotel section, the more we can see an overall picture as, hopefuly, hotels get more than one review.

PeakXV,
It was not an isolated incident. It seems others also had similar experiences. Please check the following links: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-reviews-11...728Dr iphQB#2 http://www.travel-library.com/hotels...roy_hotel.html http://www.hoteltravel.com/india/mys...roy_review.htm These are the links for the most popular sites on Travel review. There are other popular sites also like mouthshut.com & tripadvisor.com but there were no reviews posted for Viceroy on these sites. I have anyways posted my review to all these sites and its there for people to accept or reject it. I am only trying to help the prospective visitors. |

There was one review on Yahoo posted today. Was that you? It appears to have similar verbage to your post. Do post your review in the IndiaMike hotel reviews sction.
http://www.indiamike.com/reviews/sho...hp/product/206 I'm sure your complaint is warranted but I don't think that an isolated incident should call for an immediate & instant world boycott ... after all anyone can have a bad day or make a mistake or two! http://www.indiamike.com/reviews/sho...hp/product/206 |

Is the Viceroy just across from the Mysore Palace?? The name rings a bell and I'm pretty sure it's where I stayed last December. If it IS the same place I stayed I can agree and say that it was appalling. Service was shocking, room was vile (especially the bathroom), there were cockroaches, my laundry came back a day later than expected and was still soaking wet! definitely not recommended by me either! (I should say that this has to be taken in context with the expectation of what this hotel should be like and what it purports to be. I've stayed in places a million times worse, but they were fine because they were exactly as expected for the price)

PeakXV,
There are two reviews on Yahoo. One is mine (you'll find my id - vishalsha over there) and other has been posted by someone else. Incidentally, he also has the same opinion. As per your suggestion, I have posted this review in the Hotel Reviews section of IndiaMike mercedes10, yeah this hotel is just across the Mysore Palace. Excellent location and i guess that's what has made them so smug and careless about Customer's woes. But I feel in this information age, no body should remain ill informed and truth should prevail. I appreaciate support from people like you who were also hassled in the hotel. |

What puzzles me about the rating system in reviews section is how one bad review can bring the rating down so low when there are 4 other reviews that appear to recommend the place? Does the latest review outweigh all previous comment?
In addition to the Viceroy, I also reviewed the Green in Mysore. My review wasn't very complimentary, yet the only other reviewer thought it wonderful and the place now has 9's across the board! Surely the rating should be an average of all of the reviews available? |

I agree, it really should have a function like:
(review(1)x rating)+(review(2) x rating)+ (review(n) x rating)/n Although having just looked at it - it seems that it does indeed generate a formula using the above formula. There is a problem, though, in that the I don't believe the original poster of the hotel review can leave a rating and posters can leave a review good or bad without leaving a rating. You should have to leave a rating to exit the review. Otherwise you may have 3 positive reviews with no rating and then 1 negative review with a low rating - and that low rating number will be the average (albeit not a true representation) for prospective occupants. |
