Hi, We are travelling in India throughout August. We would like to go from Kozhikode to Likkidi, Vythri for two nights and raincountry resort, then we want to travel by car to Mysore. Is is feasible to travel this way during the monsoons, what is the scenery like, how long will it take and is it worth it when we get there? Anything that will give us ideas on the areas will be great and useful.jackie

hi jackiegear
You will be travelling on the national highway from kozhikode to mysore and the road is quite good and vythri is around 60-65 kms from kozhikode. As far as the scenery is concerned you will be starting from the coastal area and crossing the western ghats to reach vythri and from vythri to sultan battery you will be travelling thru tea, coffee and rubber estates. From sultan battery you have to travel thru the wayanad wildlife santuary upto gundlepet and from their it flat agriculture land upto mysore. The total distance is around 150-160 kms from kozhikode to mysore and it might take around 6-7 hours of jouney.
July and august the monsoon is active and it MIGHT be raining the whole day.

kozihode to Mysore

Hi, Thank you for your advice. It sounds like we wont get flooded out on the high way at least. This is what I was worrying about. It sounds a nice area to drive through. Do you know what Mysore is like and is it worth this journey to stay just two nights or should I consider altering my itinerary. Thanks jACKIE

Calicut to Mysore

We're planning to take a taxi from Kozhikode to Mysore staying overnight in Wayanad/Vythiri. We hope to catch the Shatabdi Express onward to Bangalore at 2:30. I 'm hoping we can leave Wayanad at 10:00 after a somewhat leisurely morning and still catch our train. Is that reasonable?

I would plan for about 4 hours for Vythiri-Mysore. So yes, it looks reasonable. But you should add an extra half hour if it is raining.

Hello:

We will travel next week from Kochi to Mysore via Kozhikode by car. Are there interesting places to stop and perhaps somewhere an hour or two east of Kozhikode to have lunch? A temple town and festival perhaps?
Thanks.

Hi,

Mysore to Calicut Highway pass through "Wayanad District" only and hence if you have time you can break and explore wayanad[2 to 3 days] and then continue your onward journey.

It's well over 4 1/2 hours journey and the road passes Via Muthanga WLS , kalpetta and the scenic "Thamaraserry Ghat road".

P.S:- Most comfortable & Economical way from cochin to Mysore is to board overnight train from Ernakulam Jn to Bangalore City Jn Followed by a train or bus to mysore. From Cochin , all the way to mysore might be bit uncomfortable .
Hope this helps

Hi Velu: thanks for the response. Though you're right that a bus would be fine, we will have a car -- my daughter was in an accident and is in a leg cast so I decided that would be worth it (rather than cancel the visit altogether). Is there somewhere you would stop for lunch in particular? Not something touristy, but just an interesting town?

Oh Sorry to hear that .

You may stop at kalpetta [Wayanad Dt Headquarters] for Lunch and a bit of Sightseeing too . From the blistering Coastal Kerala Heat, you will feel the climate bit better in Kalpetta and it's a nice scenic town.
