Suggest something for the last week of september
Hi All,
I am planning on a vacation in the last week of september (for about 4-5 days). I am short of ideas and have a few restrictions. I need help on picking a good spot.... *) I need to drive (burning desire), I need a good place within 5-6 hours from bangalore (I have a 1.8 yr daughter so anything more than 6 is impossible) *) I prefer good spots in hill stations. I had been to chikmagalur in May, I thought of Coorg but when i read the posts i heard Jan is a splendid time and i want to save it tell then, and also its a leechy season now... *) ooty/kodai -- too far off?? Any other place guys with a decent resort or homestay? I have heard about yercaud. How is that? Thanks |

There's an interesting report on a trip to Yercaud here on Team-BHP. It describes the trip from Chennai, rather than Bangalore, but there are some great photos (warning: they are rather too big for a forum, hope you have broadband). The thread certainly tempted me to make the trip one day soon!

ooty is within 6-8 hours (but i dont know the road conditions now).
we went to ooty in august and almost all places were damp and smelly. these hotel owners dont do any maintenence in the monsoon months. so choose your stay with care, where ever you go. check if BR hills is open in september and if its the right time to go there |

one day is enough for yercaud and surroundings.it`s 30 kms from salem.and also not special spots in yercaud.just one lake and some small estates.thats all.
avoid yercaud for 4-5 days.its for a one day visit. i prefer coorg and surroundings.it has lot of options for 4-5 days. otherwise ooty is good. -suresh babu. |

Though you can reach Ooty in the time limit you have set, or a little more with stops at Srirangapatnam/Mysore, I would prefer coorg too.
The more appealing part of the Nilgiris is beyond Ooty, in the tea growing areas around Kotagiri. But then, it depends on the kind of holiday you want. |

Thanks for the replies.
I have decided on Coorg. I need a little more information. Need to decide on a home stay. Since i will be driving and i have a small kid, i need to find a home stay (economical, ofcourse) from which i can reach a few places that i want to see. I dont think i will be able to do a lot of trek, so places like Dubare, plantation walks, Monastery would be more suited for me. I dont have a proper geographical idea of coorg towns. So to choose a home stay to do some of the above, which is the closest town i need to start the search. Madikeri, Kushalnagar, ammathi?? anything else. I am searching homestaykodagu.com but if any one knows a nice home stay let me know. Thanks all. |
