| Hi, Shringeri is a very small place with "Mutt Accomodations" & very few private lodges with only 1 Decent Veg hotel and quite a few normal veg hotels ! There is no Flats over there as far as I saw and it's a Pilgrimage city with Laid-back lifestyle and bus frequency to many a places around is very minimal ! And just an info, Forests nearer to Shringeri are Naxalite infested and there are Police-Naxaite encounters within 10 to 15 kms of Shringeri and there are atleast 2 to 3 such happenings a Quarter ! Shimoga also , as far as I know is yet another nice place in karnakata but Not sure on the "Beautiful" part you are Refering to [ I did not visited till now but I have many friends from Shimoga. I will check with them and post here the actuals on Ground] But it's a better town for visiting Jog Falls / Shringeri/ Kudremukha NP / Agumbe Ghats etc [ All are 50 to 100 kms distance anwways] !! | Hello Naidu, I am second with Mr. Venu in this regard.. I too recommend Mysore only. Basically I am from Shimoga & as far as my knowledge concerned 'flat-culture' is not there like Mumbai & other metropoliton cities. Individual houses are well known. If you are very much determined to stick to Shimoga better stay in some hotels in Shimoga for a week's time & you can gauge the wave length over there. Priority-wise I rate Mysore and then Shimoga. At both places, people & atmosphere are freindly almost with the far. All the best Jay |

| @KS Sir, Already Jayanna responded with the information and details !. Just thought of updating what I got it from My friends who are from Shimoga ! Shimoga has :- All Round Good Climate due to proximity of Westernghats No Flats and only individual houses Medical facilities are good and is well connected with other parts of Karnataka and very well connected to Bangalore. In Shimoga, People are really good and very helpful. Shimoga City as such is around 6 Kms Circumference and once you travel 6 kms from Shimoga Busstand in any direction you will be in Nice Country side [Read Nice Villages] But My "Shimogan friends" too feel between Mysore & Shimoga, Mysore is better for Settling down ! May be as Jayanna said, try out a week in shimoga and then may be you could take a call sir ! All the best ! Velu |
