@Radjesh,
You can do the following:- Kasaragod - Sulya [ Border Town of Karnataka]-Madikeri - Virajpet-Gonikoppal-Kutta-Nagarahole NP ! Between Kasaragod - Sulya, road is Fantastic and super-scenic and From Sulya, road is bit poor until Madikeri [ For Around 30 kms and considering the extreme monsoon now in Coorg, in August expect more Worser roads]. From Madikeri , Nagarahole NP Forest dept Gate is 84 kms ! All Through nice scenery ! Anyways Bekal fort is just 14 kms from Kasaragod Bus stand [ From NH-17, get into Kasaragod Town and after around 1km take left and that's the shortest for Bekal from Kasaragod and you will travel next to Beach , Fishermen Settlements etc and that's nice]. In NH17 [Near Kasaragod], there will be "Guiding sign boards to Bekal but that's around 15 kms Extra and Circuitous". If you have more time for Kasaragod, you can add-on atleast the following:- 1)Anantha padmanabhaswamy temple 2)Kanhankad Ashrams Not sure your mode of Transport, if it's your own car, Post out here, I can add "Detailed Place names / Kms "[ I did visited Kasaragod district 4 weeks back in my own car and I have noted down many details as usual ] to this post which might add more places to your plan and also some shortcuts which might be some help to you ! Hope this helps Velu |

No, Nagarahole NP is part of Coorg District and what I specified is the route a car may take !
Alternate route is Kasaragod - Kannur- Virajpet- .... - Nagarahole NP but Taxi driver might not accept to take that route as Road is very pathetic for around 25 kms in Karnataka - Kerala Border ! [ Almost No Vehicle uses that highway including government buses for past few months or so . It's that much bad] Velu |

OK, fine... So whats the total distance for Kasaragod - Sulya - Madikeri - Nagarahole route ? & given these rainy conditions, how much time do you think would take to cover it. Hope it wouldn't be a problem traveling in the evening/night

Approximately it will be 55 + 55 + 84 [closer to 190 kms] end-to-end !
No Problem as such travelling in night but you will miss the scenery all through ! Also not sure where you are to going to stay at night as reaching Nagarahole NP [ Safari timings is 6 - 9 am and 3 - 6 pm] by late evening / night is NOT at all advisable if you did not booked your rooms well in advance ! Plan out in advance. In that Circuit , Sulya , Madikeri, Virajpet & Gonikoppal are Decent towns with Hotels / Lodges etc and then there is only Tea Plantations and Forests and no real Good town to Stay [ I mean on-the-Fly Lodge option may not possible in Kutta Or Nagarahole NP areas]. My suggestion is if at if it is 5 pm + when you reach Madikeri, plan out Stay in Madikeri itself and you could proceed the next Day to Nagarahole NP . Travelling time will be around 5 Hours at the Maximum End-to-End [ That's based on My driving .I drive at 40 - 50 km / Hr on an average and you can make it well in advance]. Velu |

Thanks a ton Velu, you've been a great help. BTW, resorts within Nagarhole seems to be mostly for upmarket tourists. Can you recommend any mid range ones for 6 people I mean on the fringes on the park, if there are any?

In Madikeri, Hotel Chithra [ Opposite to Madikeri Private bus stand] has double bed rooms for 500 Rs/ night with TV / Hot water !] . We stayed there and it's budget and worth for money [ No scenery or anything from that Hotel possible ]
Hotel Mayura Valley View , Madikeri [ Government of Karnataka Lodge] is best for scenery / Location / Ambience etc and that costs 1200 Rs /Night with TV and 24 hours hot water ! For both the lodges mentioned above, We just walked-in and got the rooms ! Also there are budget / Normal lodges in Virajpet & Gonikoppal too ! If you are all-male group, you could try out Virajpet / Gonikoppal too for night stay . If not, Just spend some time in Madikeri [ Especially opposite to private bus stand and there are 2 to 3 good hotels on the way to Raja's seat]find a room which suits your budget / taste and retire for the night ! Have a Fantastic trip Ahead !! Velu |
