I stayed in Rain Country resorts about 4 years back. Judging by the pictures on their website, it hasn't changed all that much since then. The cottages were nicely done up,clean and well maintained. The generator providing power supply to the resort is switched off at about 10 pm in the night. The resulting silence and almost complete darkness makes one feel like camping out in the forest. The approach road winding its way through a plantation might be a bit tricky to navigate in a car during the rains, so hiring a jeep would be a good bet.

Thanks for that useful information. Will certainly get a jeep. ARE THEY easy to get in Kozhikode where we get off the train and how much would we pay.I expect it is too long ago now to be a realistic price today. Thanks anyway. JACKIE |

jackiegear, afraid I have no idea about the availability of jeeps for hire at the Kozhikode railway station. We had gone by road from Kochi to Vythiri.
Instead of getting a jeep at Kozhikode, you could hire a regular cab and ask the resort to arrange for a jeep pickup at the highway turn-off. Regular car taxi's would be available at the railway station. The cost/km for non-AC car is Rs.7 and that for one with AC, Rs 8. The site below would give you a better idea about the charges for different classes of vehicle, Min Hire charges and so on http://www.keralataxi.com/cartypes1.htm |
