Hi Froggy,

Welcome to Indiamike!

About the trekking, there numerous forts/peaks in Sahyadri(Maharashtra) and Karnataka. Just take your pick.
Here are few sites to make up your mind

Maharashtra
deepabhi.tripod.com
http://www.trekthesahyadris.com
www.trekshitiz.com
Karnataka
www.dreamroutes.org
www.karnatakawildernesstourism .org

Don't know about Karnataka, but trek in Dec is very much do-able in Maharashtra. The midday sun could get a bit fierce though. Carry a lot of water. In some places you can find water tanks on top, but the potability of it could be an issue. Start early, pass the midday in shade and descent on afternoon.

Cheers

Anindya

I'm really excited to come to India, it's the first time and i want to appreciate any moment of the trip espacially walking in the hills and meeting people on my way. Do you know a good book in order to learn the India history ?
