Bannerghatta national park is worthless, it's nothing but a zoo with big enclosures for animals. Everything is staged ! stay away !

Karnataka tourism (KSTDC) runs daily city site seeing tours in AC buses, they start from Badami House. This is an excellent way to see Bangalore.

KSTDC runs several Karantaka tour packages also.

Balu, please mention the theme of your holiday so that its a lot easier for members to narrow down places which might excite you. Because Karnataka has lots to offer - hills, wildlife, waterfalls, architecture, etc.

The list suggested by Rajered is quite inclusive but I would recommend restricting the number of places to 3-4 to avoid a rushed holiday. My pick - Bangalore, Sivasamudram, mysore and Madikeri (Coorg) .

karnataka can be divided into 3 regions for the sake of tourism ie north karnataka, old mysore and coastal karnataka
1) north karnataka - important desinations : bijapur, basavakalyan, banashankari, hampi, pattadakal, aihole, badami, saund ati etc.
2) Old mysore : bangalore, mysore,somanathpur,belur, helebid,coorg,ooty, etc
3):dharmashtala,modabidri,srin geri,horanadu,kollur,udupi,mur udeshwar,karwar etc.
now you can decide which region you want to travel,

My Preference of places

Dear All,

Thanks very much for quick replys.
My family of 5 adults want to cover devotional, wildlife side of karnataka. Bangalore can be excluded as I saw this garden city many a times (as I was an ex Bangalorian).
I prefer visiting coastal karnataka and for your info I got effectively 7 days inclusive to cover the places. I will start from hyd and the trip should also end to hyd.
How feasible is to visit following places in the said time
On Day-1 planning to reach Mysore from hyd.
1. Mysore + Srirangapatnam
2. Nagarhole
3. Kukke Subramanya
4. Dharmasthala
5. Udipi + Malpe
6. Sringeri
7. Agumbe
8. Jog Falls
9. Gokarna
10. Hampi
Please suggest me if this list is too long and also I use public road transport or hire a taxi to cover these places.
Also my start and destination is hyderabad; so please arrange above places accordingly. Btw feel free to drop any of the places if they are not feasible to cover; as my family want to cover more of devotional side please suggest in those lines also.
Please revert back if you need any more information.

Regards,
Balu.

congrajulations vineith,
You have a very good knowledge about places in western ghats but i feel you are straining a lot.
eg day 4 = If a person wants to reach sringeri by 7.00 am from dharmastala with a distance of around 70kms, i think he needs a minimum of 2 1/2 hours of journey ie he has leave dharmastala by 4.30 am in the morning so he has to get up by 4 am.

you have 10 places listed for 7 days... travel by road/train - that really is whizzing past everything.

i am curious - when you get to the coast - dont you want at least 10-12 waking hours on the beach ?
hampi requires and deserves - 24 hours minimum if not more.

my suggestion would be to take a 2-course journey...
wildlife + coast or
coast + monuments or
monuments + wildlife or
for 7 days - keep 3-4 places, not more.
karnataka aint going nowhere - you can always return.

'more' is definitely not 'better', during a holiday.
you need to soak in the ambiance of a place - relax - sit under a tree doing nothing...
just a suggestion
