Would anyone know how to get information on mysore city buses - that is local buses within mysore. I saw them around and heard good things but can not find any info online about they schedule, routes, timings and ticket prices.

Is there any website that has this info?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Arora,

You can find the "Volvo City Bus services" timings at

http://www.ksrtc.in/site/mapBasedMysoreVolvo.html.

For Normal City bus services, I do not think the complete information available online .

I did saw few timetables sold at platform just nearer to Mysore City bus stand BUT again timings are subjected to change and fare for every stage will not be there.

If you need any info on specific routes, Please Post so that I can share the related info (If I know).

wow.. even the link map you provided is more than I knew before. It is a good starting point.

We are temporarily staying in Kuvempunagar and are looking around for rental houses. Tomorrow we plan to go to city area to get familiar with the city. Someone told us we can get day pass on the bus and then go on any buses all day - is that true? Or is the pass valid on only certain buses?

We usually go to the shopping complex on Udyavari road (near shanti sagar hotel) and saw lots of buses there. Which bus would be the fastest connection to the city centre area?

thank you again in advance.

@Arora,

For Passes, the information is shared over here

http://www.ksrtc.in/site/Concessions.html.

From Shanti Sagara, there are frequent number of buses to Mysore city But I am sorry I do not know the route numbers."C.B.S" is the abbreviation used for "Mysore City bus stand" in all buses.

I stayed near Vijaya Nagara II nd stage and I was aware of the buses routes in that area.

Some General information which might help you being a newcomer :-

1. Real Estate brokers charges 1 month "Rent" as commission
2. Advance amount is 3 to 5 Months in Mysore. In Bangalore/Chennai it's 10 months "rent" . Be aware of this as people tend to quote 10 Months "Rent" as advance to outsiders.
3. Mysore Bus stand is called as "Suburb bus stand" locally .
4. Pre-paid Auto stands exists at Mysore Railway station and Mysore Suburb bus stand and by paying 1 INR, we can board the auto and the amount to be paid will be printed in the pre-paid receipt . Just we have to pay that once we reached the destination . Mysore Police has very good control over auto-drivers and Never I faced any "Unreasonable demand" from pre-paid auto till now.
5.By any chance you came to mysore for "Yoga", you can find a house in Doctor's corner / Gokulam IIIrd stage area where there are many many foreigners staying in that area and are
just walking to their "Yoga Kendra"
6. Downtown area is "Urs Road" and it's walkable from mysore City bus stand and mysore Palace.
7. Any Electrical/Electronic/Computer related purchases, KT street is the primary area( walkable from Palace Via Clock Tower)
8. Volvo A/C city buses available for Chamundi Hills/KRS (Brindavan Gardens)/Nanjangud (Famous Shiva Temple)/Shrirangapatna (Sangam/Tippu's Summer Palace) from Mysore city bus stand.
9.Absolutely No need for AC . It will be bit dry/hot during Mar/Apr but otherwise it's managebale and decent climate all through the year.
10. Once upon a time, Kuvempu Nagar is the primary /Posh /Main area of mysore. Now , Slowly Vijaya nagar I/II stages, Gokulam I/II/III stages also scaled up with Restaurants/Posh Houses with very good bus connectivity etc.

If you need info on anything specific, Please feel free to post.

All the Best

Thank you Velu, your info was very helpful.

I am slowly getting familar with the buses here and am quite impressed - Mysore has really set it up nicely.

Currently, we are considering a rent place either in Kuvempunagar or Sidharta Layout as we don't want anything too pricey. what is your opinion about Sidharta Layout (close to MRC).

Also, i am surprised to find out that the advance is only 3-5 month in Mysore for rent as so far every place we saw has quoted us 10-11 month. What do you suggest to get the landlord to agree to the lesser advance? Any govt regulation about this...

Are there any areas/ market popular for furniture - we will be needing basic cot and mattress when we get our rental place.

Thanks.

@Arora,

I myself paid 10 Months Rental as "advance" but after that I saw/know so many of my ofice colleagues got the house for 3 - 6 months rental as "Advance".

Only way is to bargain/quote something like "My friend paid this much only" kind of dialogues. There is no government Regulation on this.

As We stayed near Vijayanagara, we bought "computer table" , " TV stand" etc near to our place. I do not have much idea on places around "Siddhartha Layout".

Dear Pmvelu

Just to tap into your knowledge of Mysore, we are a group of six staying in an apartment in Vijyanagara II stage for 4weeks this October. Is there a bus that will take us to the university area (near Manasagangothri open air theatre?

Also, do you know how easy it is to come by western foods in the shops, eg; pasta, bread. We love indian food but will have to make our own breakfasts ans meals sometimes.

Further, are there good high speed internet cafes in Vijayanagar an eateries as well, we love dosas and idlies.

Thanks Galerina

Do they sell street maps with bus lines overlaid? I like to keep things in walking perspective as well, if possible.

Hi Galerina,

From Vijayanagar IInd stage, there is NO direct bus to Manasagangothri campus. You need to get 116/119/123/124(Depending on where you are planning your staying at Vijayanagara IInd stage) to Mysore City bus stand followed by another bus to the Manasagangothri campus.

As your's is a short stay, you may fix a "Auto" and it might cost 70 Rs/one way from your place. If it's going to be for all 4 weeks To&Fro, you may work out a package with an auto driver (nearby to your place of stay) and that will be comfortable and more time saving ( Additional Note: I typed thinking you are 4 and I re-read and understood you are 6.. FYI, In an auto, 2 folks can sit comfortably and 3 can adjust )

For food, Please refer to this chain, where all kind of restaurants in Mysore were discussed. I too shared some info in this thread (post:no:14)

Great Food in Mysore

Loyal World , Vontikoppal (This is hardly 4 - 5 kms from your place) will have most of what you might need (There are many Western customers to this shop) and hence they stock many needy items for Non-Indian customers.

Big Chicken (This is just on the first floor of the Loyal world) could be considered Mysore's KFC. I felt it's almost 60% of the KFC taste.

There is no KFC or MCD in mysore and the only subway franchise closed down few months back due to operational losses.

High speed internet ,Hmmm I don't remember seeing anything near your place but "SIFY Broadband" (High speed cafe) is near Loyal world. In Vijayanagara IInd stage, there are many a internet browsing centres, and it's 15 Rupees/Hour with the minimum amount set to 10Rs. I felt the speed is in between Dial-up and Broadband. Per page Laser printout cost 10 Rs.

Any time you would like to meet more non-indians / Western tourists, Just walk up to DR's Corner (Gokulam IIIrd stage) (2 - 3 kms from your place) and you will see many many folks sitting in Tea shop / Flower shop etc and that's the Place very famous for "Yoga" and many a people stay near that location .

Hope this helps. If you need more info,Please post.

Velu

I don't remember seeing such a map WT but you may give it a try in:-

1) The platform outside "Mysore City bus stand"
2) Just walk across the road from City bus stand (From Bus Exit path) and you will see many many book stalls in the bylanes.
3) You may also try in "Sapna Book House" ( 100 metres from Big Bazaar) ( 500 Metres from urs road / 1.0 km from Mysore City bus stand)

Best of Luck

I just arrived to Mysore and would like to visit the zoo.
I'm in the Gokulum 3rd stage area (hope I referenced that right) and I'm hoping there's a bus in the area to the Mysore City Bus Stand, if not the Mysore Zoo itself. So far I have not been able to find any information online about local bus schedules. I'm getting incredibly frustrated. Any help??

I should add: none of the links above work anymore. Either way, looks like the ksrtc buses are only for transportation to/from Mysore, not within in the city itself?

WT,

You may take 124,123,119(Volvo A/c As well as normal Non A/c Buses and this is very frequent) to Mysore City Bus stand. From there you may take 201 (Volvo A/C) and there are more buses which goes Via Zoo. There is no direct bus to zoo from your place.

Within the City, KSRTC runs "City Services" all across. I see the link I provided for Mysore KSRTC Volvo Map based Link moved or Removed.

An Auto may cost you around 100 Rs from your place to zoo and from Mysore City Bus stand it will be 30 Rs to zoo in Auto.

Hope this helps

Appreciate the info Velu! I believe I've seen a few bus stands, I hope they indicate what buses stop there?

On Google Maps it appears that you can conceivably walk from the City Bus Stand to the Zoo...would you advise for or against that?
