Metropole Mysore--another vote!

Oceantragic, you'll be glad to know that the Metropole in Mysore is still wonderful. i of course cannot compare it to when you were there, but last month it was WONDERFUL!!! he gov't, and Royal Orchid Hotel company, have done outstanding jobs of preserving and revitalizing the place.
The food, inner courtyard, historic ambiance, and surrounding gardens-- all were lovely. The room was not huge, but was adequate, and nicely decorated. Bathroom was large and bright. Good maintenance and cleanliness. There's a swimming pool too, if your kids would like that, and a huge antique swing in the lobby. Service was friendly and professional. If interested, i posted a more detailed review as "Calinurse" on Tripadvisor.

You can also consider Ginger hotels.
http://www.gingerhotels.com/index.aspx
Its very clean, cheap and walkable distance to zoo and palace. They have a gym too and the locations is very quite

Also, don't forget to try breakfast at the very old and very famous hotel Mylari cafe (very small hotel) which is world famous for its idlys and dosas. This is two mins walking distance from Ginger hotel. They have two hotels on the same road.

Cheers!

Try Green Hotel - it's a little out of town but worth it. It's a small former summer palace, and has been converted with sustainable measures in mind.

Highly recommended!

Greetings,

I was reading your reviews and the Dasa Prakash sounds like a good place to get started in Mysore... I've checked their room rates and seem quite reasonable. Could anyone please seay if their rooms are nice and clean, I mean, no bed bugs? Many thanks.

Hey, lotus girl

I tried to PM you but couldn't figure it out! Anyways, I'm from Calgary Canada and am going to Mysore soon, (landing July 3). I'll be in Mysore for about three weeks and would appreciate any help with finding a place at a decent price! I'd like a private room/washroom but I think it'd be nice to be in a private home and do a homestay kind of thing so I'm not all alone! One of my issues is that I'll be studying (I think) with Sheshadri, who is teaching in Jayanagar right now, but which I hear isn't the greatest area to stay in. I'm thinking Goukalam might be a bit better? Any recommendations welcomed!

Cheers!

Hey Pixie I'm from Calgary too! I am doing a practicum in Bangalore so if you'll be in the city let me know. I've been here for almost two months now and will be around till August.

Also, I am looking for a place in mysore for two nights next week that allows pets - if anyone knows of anything please let me know!

Hey,

As far as i know, i can suggest only one place where you can try,
ALIA'S GUESTHOUSE(http://www.aliaom.com/). Here you can ask them about your pet and most probably they will allow.

Cheers!!!

Hi Canadian Shakti, what a small world! I actually fly into Bangalore July 3 but will probably take the train into Mysore right away...I might take a day or two in the city before I leave closer to the end of July. Would you suggest taking the time to see Bangalore for a day or two? Everything I've read suggests there's not a whole lot to see in the way of attractions...Anyhow, I will definitely let you know of my plans!

Cheers

Bangalore for pixieseto

Honestly I have no idea if Bangalore is worth a visit - I have been so busy I honestly haven't seen any of the sites if there are any. I think it would probably be more interesting after you have been in India for some time and are in need of pampering as it has all the comforts of home - great food, great bars, shopping, movie theatres, etc. It's been a great place to live and people are very hospitable. I'll actually be out of town when you're arriving anyways, but if you're also flying out of Bangalore when you go give me a shout if you're coming through. Have a great trip!

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd ask my questions here.

I am looking for a quiet mid-priced hotel to spend one night. A group of 8 (4 adults, 4 kids - all aged under 9). I don't need A/C given the cooler climes of Mysore.

Based on prior posts, I have a list (the Metropole is outside our budget):
  1. Dasaprakash Paradise, Yadavagiri
  2. Ginger Hotel, near Vasant Mahal
  3. Dasaprakash Campus

Are there any others worth considering?

I speak Kannada. I also prefer a clean old-fashioned quiet place (not a big fan of Ginger).

Hi, It's Me again !!
My thoughts down below .
Dasaprakash campus

Pros :-

Just walkabale distance to City Bus stand, Mysore's MG road [ Devaraja urs road], Devaraja market.

Budget & secure & one of the oldest lodges in mysore[ Even Room Boys are around 50 + ]

Cons:-

Once you come out of this complex, it will be totally crowded

Dasaparakash paradise :-

Pros:-

Near to Mysore Jn
Decent , relatively high end hotel

Cons :-

Not sure of any

Ginger hotel:-

Pros:-

Somewhat distant from Mysore City centre [ Read Mysore Bus stands, Railway Station, Palace]
Typical Ginger Hotel environment.

Cons :-

Somewhat distant from Mysore city centre !

You did not asked but you could give a try on Mysore Mayura Hoyasala [ Karnataka Government Hotel]- Around 1000 INR / night

Pros:-

Very old Maharaja period building
100 metres from Mysore JN and calm / Quite/ Secure complex
Good people at reception who can guide you with the info you need on mysore tourist places
All Karnataka Government Tours originate from this complex
Excellent Restaurant
Karnataka Government's Silk Showroom in this campus itself which is one of the Most genuine Silk showrooms in mysore !

Cons:-

Rooms are relatively small
No Room Service

General:-

1) For Mysore, No need to book room in advance. You can just come down and hire an auto and visit all of these hotels and decide based on your comfort level.Maximum in 1 hour you can visit& Decide on all the best /better lodges in Mysore
2) If you are on very high end , even Hotel Golden land mark is worth a try [ Around 10 kms from Mysore Jn & Very nice complex in Mysore - KRS road and Food is Excellent. Till Now I experienced only lunch Buffet and it's too good and worth for Money]

Hope this helps
Velu

Velu,
I am not at the very high end. I'm content to spend not more than 750 INR per night for the one night we'll be in Mysore. Golden Land Mark and Metropole are way off the meter. Though I like what i see with Metropole. Reminds me of the old Taj West End hotel in Bangalore.

Hotel Dasaprakash will be in your budget range out of the options you provided!

And Hotel Mayura Yathri Nivas[ Government of Karnataka hotel just adjacent to Hotel Mayura Hoysala in the same campus is budget and they have 4 bed , 6 bed etc.You may have a Look]

If you mean 750 RS/ Night for the whole Group ,it might be a bit Difficult , but then Mayura Yathri nivas might be an option to look at !

Have a Fantastic Trip Ahead !
