The beach around RNS residency should be pretty safe. There are hardly any visitor once you walk some 250m away from the beach near the hotel.
The swimming pool in RNS is hardly used. Atleast I didnt see any users other than my kids. A whole lot of rooms face the pool, so you might have eyes watching you swim from the balconies. I am not sure of RNS has a bar. The overall ambience in the hotel and restaurant wont make you feel out of place even if you head to a bar in RNS(provided its there).

hi jyotipg
Thanks so much for your reply I think you might be correct in saying that RNS Residency has no bar as its a vegetarian restaurant and Ive yet to see a vegetarian restaurant serve alcohol in India But are there any bars where i could walk to ? I'm looking forward to going murudeshwar do you think 2 nights are enough? Up to now we are staying 2 nights murudeshwar 2 nights gokarna 1 night karwar. Are there any must see places around the same train journey that would be of interest we have 3 weeks holiday booked and would like to spend just one week Goa and the other 2 weeks doing short train journeys and seeing a little of karnataka thanks again sharon |

The holy part of Murudeshwar is only the small 'island' that consists of the temple, statues, hill, car park, RSN Residency (with restaurant), and seperate restaurant, meat and alcohol are not allowed on the island (I think).
I saw the pool in the hotel, but didn't try it. Naveen Beach resort is just north of the island and has a very good outdoor restaurant that serves meat and also alcohol (I think). The beach isn't like other beaches in Gokarna or Goa, I don't think the locals are ready for a female in a bathing suit and I feel sure you'd get a lot of people staring at you, below is a thread with some photos of the beach, though it looks like the photos were taken at a busy time as the beach was never that crowded in the 2 days I was there. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...rudeshwar.html Consider a day trip to Jog Falls, we hired a car & driver to take us there, wait a few hours, then bring us back, the first price they quoted was Rs1000, we didn't try to bargain, if I remember right, the drive time in each direction is about 2 hours. |

Hi Stephan thanks for the wonderful link
i know some of my questions my sound rather silly can you pay for a guided tour around the *island* describing the story behind each statue? or even a book perhaps The more i look into murudeshwar the more intrigued i become and to think that one man built and owns half the city lol quote The beach isn't like other beaches in Gokarna or Goa, I don't think the locals are ready for a female in a bathing suit and I feel sure you'd get a lot of people staring at you, below is a thread with some photos of the beach, though it looks like the photos were taken at a busy time as the beach was never that crowded in the 2 days I was there. The reply to that is Ive learned my lesson the hard way we (meaning my husband and myself)got off the plane from Goa at mumbai for our last few days of our holiday and we just dropped our suit cases in our hotel and went for a little tour around andheri, then my hubby decides he wanted a shave so i was sitting in an empty barbers waiting for my hubby ,and within a few minutes of me sitting down the place was full of men all just staring at me at the time i was in a short skirt and a skimpy blouse i was wearing in Goa and i never changed i felt a right tart almost naked i left asap went back to my hotel and got changed jeans and t shirt lol so as for the beach then know what and what not to wear i also have a few Punjabi suits for when we go around the *island* but i was thinking around the hotel pool maybe a full bikini with a sari? Also do you think bhatkal is worth a few days as the beaches there look really fantastic and are there hotels around that point or are we better to stay where we are and travel to and from bhatkal ? anyway thanks once again stephen Sharon |

I didn't check out the beaches around Batkal, though it's a Muslim town, so you should think long and hard about what you wear on the beach.
Bhatkal is only 20kms from Murudeshwar, so can easily be visited on a day trip. I visited Bhatkal briefly and it was just a dusty town, quite ugly really, but the people were friendly, the reason I visited..... The RNS Residency is a great hotel.....until you need a kettle, we were travelling with a baby and needed a kettle, we asked the hotel, they brought us a jug of very hot water, so I went to try to explain that we needed to wash baby's bottles, then steralise them, then make up some formula milk, and all of these would need boiling water, there was a lot of discussions, a lot of understanding, and endless head wobbles, but no boiling water. I looked at many places in Murdeshwar, but had no joy, so I got an auto to take me to Bhatkal to find a kettle, I never found one, but I bought a heating element and cut up some plastic containers and made my own kettle. (damn, I wish I could find the photo) |
