Mangalore to Goa by taxi

We are planning a trip by taxi from Mangalore to Goa via Shirali, Murdeshwar in December, 2009. Can some one suggest places to stay (resorts or beach front hotels) in Mangalore, Murudeshwar and Goa? Can we also get some information about the road conditions on NH 17? Any other ideas or experiences are welcome.

Places to stay -
Mangalore - Cant recommend any beachfront hotels. There was SummerSands, but not recommended now. Also, not sure if there are any good ones. Suggest you try the sea front acco in Malpe (udupi) - Paradise Isle
Murudeshwar - The one & only RNS Residency - Bang on the sea

Goa - innumerable options & I guess it depends on where you want to be.

Road: It was in a very good condition an year ago. I am nt aware of the conditions now. It should be good. Ask this query on www.team-bhp.com & you would get answers (I hope)

Havent provided your budget range. assuming it to be Luxury, You can stay at Taj Garden Retreat can check Taj hotels.com.

Thank you for your replies.
We are looking to stay in three or four star hotels in Mangalore so that we can plan on a round trip to Dharmastala. Can any one suggest places in Mangalore?
What taxi services are available from Mangalore to go one way to Dharmastala, Shirali and Goa?

In mangalore the best one is taj manjaram , the other hotels are
royal orchadis, hotel poonja international.

All I know is Mangalore to Goa will be quite some ways, and going one-way you'll naturally be paying them for the return fare as well.

Hi,
Their is no one way taxi from mangalore to dharmastala and goa.
I dont understand this place shirali, it is a small village at the foot hill of the shirali ghats.

Kumar Are you confusing it with shiradi? Shirali is on the costal highway just before murdeshwar. Its is a pilgrim center

Shirali has two famous temples
The first The chitrapur mutt which is the main place of residence of the religious head of the chitrapur saraswats (Praksh PAdukone, Deepika, Esha Kopikar, Guru Dutt etc. are all Chitrapur Saraswats)

The other temple is the Mahaganapathi Mahamaya Temple. The "Kavi" (Its a kind of painting using only Red Pigment http://www.kamat.com/kalranga/kaviart/kaviart.htm peculiar to this area) paintings on the outer walls of the garba Gudi of this temple is quite remarkable.

Shirali is quite close to murdeshwar. Both these temples have rooms for staying (Might be very basic) and Daily Lunch (Prasad)

Other places like in the vicinity are Kumta, Honnavar etc.
