coorg is not fairly extensive and its easy to see most of Coorg in just a couple of days - at least the touristy places. You would need a car though..From Mysore, you will go directly to kabinakad - visit Nalknad Aramane and if you like to trek, go to Thadiyandamol..if you are a bit religious, you can go to Iguthuppa temple in Kakkabe Madikeri is about a couple of hours on a good day and you can visit Abbey Falls, rajas seat, rajas tombs , the fort and also see Talacauvery and Bhagamandala. You will have to choose between Bylakuppe , the Tibetan settlement near Kushalnagar and Irpu Falls and Nagarhole which can be covered on your return to Mysore..My blog has more details if you are interested

Hello everyone,
Last year Nov I had been to to Coorg, I should say the most beautiful experience I have ever had. Its just acers and acres of lush greens. Great smelling coffee and pepper. I went to Coorg from Mangalore by Road which was a mistake, best way to reach coorg is thru mysore, the roads are better. we stayed in this place called Palace Estate, the place is divine, a homestay option, Mr and Mrs Prasad run this place, its their ancestral property. 3 days is enough to see Coorg, the Major attractions are the multiple number of falls you would see like Abbi falls, Nagarhole, Iguttapa temple, Kauvery nisagadama. The only issue is this particular Place Estate is in South of Coorg and you have to travel a great deal to reach these local attractions. Out travel plan was to absolutely do nothing and just enjoy the never ending greens of coorg. if thats ur idea then place estate is the place you should check.

Help with Orange County Coorg, Kabini

I need to get to Orange County Coorg & Kabini. (Traveling originally from Goa). But I'm told by the resort at Coorg that the road from Mangalore is very patch!

Also I need to get to Orange County Kabini from OC Coorg and from there, onwards to Mysore or Bangalore. Ultimately I need to get to the Bangalore airport...

My other problem is that the hotel transfers are turning out to be a tad expensive for us. .

Can you suggest better???

Never stayed at the Bison resort - but from what I've heard, their location is fantastic (very close to the Wild life sanctuary) and facilities quite OK. But this was from a couple of years ago, so can't say how how it would be now.

The road from Mysore to the resort is excellent upto the Nagarahole wild life sanctuary entrance is excellent, but then you need to travel about 10 kms or so from there to reach the resort, and that road is in pathetic condition (so might take you at least 45 minutes to traverse)

The direct road from Bison Resort to Club Mahindra (which is in Madikeri) does not pass through Nagarahole, but does pass close to Iruppu falls. The road is OK till Kutta (Iruppu falls is near Kutta) except for the first 4-5 kms coming out of the resort, but the Kutta-Virajpet section was in pretty bad shape till a while back (not sure of they have done any repairs recently). Also I can't seem to recall any good restaurant on that route - though you might find a few average ones in Gonikoppal or Virajpet which are mid-sized towns that fall on the way.

If you want to go through Nagarahole, the road is somewhat better, and you would be going right through the middle of the National park with excellent chances for wild life sightings. In that case, you could go upto Hunsur and then proceed to Madikeri on the State Highway 88 which is excellent all through. Hunsur also has a few good restaurants - A lot of people seem to recommend Cafe Coorg highly.

Sorry - can't help you much about these since I haven't travelled through that area for a long time now. The direct route between Madikeri and Mangalore via Jalsoor / Sulya was closed for repairs for a few months last year, but I suppose that would have been completed long back and the road should be open now (and hopefully in good shape)

Not too familiar with beach resorts around that area either. (You may find a few if you travel some distance to the north - like Malpe or Byndoor)

I will be visiting coorg between Jan 26th to Jan 30th, 2013. My itinerary is as below:
25th January – 5:10 Pm flight from Pune to Bangalore, evening in Bangalore
26th January – Leave early morning for Mysore via Sivanasamudra Waterfalls (Around 197 KM), Visit Mysore Palace and Zoo (if time permits) in afternoon
27th January – Mysore to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and then proceed to Madikeri, reach by afternoon (Total around 140 KM)
28th January – Madikeri sightseeing
29th January – Madikeri sightseeing
30th January – Madikeri to Mangalore (Around 140 KM), visit beaches in Mangalore and avail 9:15 PM flight to Mumbai

My question is regarding the Mangalore part. Any idea about current road condition of Madikeri - Mangalore stretch? How long does it take to travel in Bus/ Car? My plan is to leave after early breakfast and reach Mangalore by mid day. Have a look at some of the nearby beaches till Sunset and then proceed to airport. Is it doable? Do I get a good bus at around 8:30/9:00 AM in Morning or will it be better to book a cab for the day?
Any recommendation about cab operator/driver in Coorg for sightseeing and the drop? As we plan to cover Ranganathittu on our way to Madikeri, is it advisable to book a car only for Ranganathittu visit and then return to Mysore to take a but till Madikeri? Any idea about car booking charges? For Bangalore to Mysore via Gaganachukki and Barachukki waterfalls, I intend to book a cab as it may not be possible to travel by Public transport in this route.
This is my 2nd visit to Coorg but a 1st to Sivanasamudra, Ranganathittu and Mangalore. Please share your valuable advices.
