Hi all, I have gone through couple of threads and I think they are really worth reading because of genuine comments/suggestions/advice by the members.

I am from mumbai and have planned 7-8 days tour to coorg in nov. month. I wanted some info. advice, contact no. if you can give.

1. Best mode of transport from manglore railway station to coorg.
2. Bus/Taxi services available with their updated contacts and updated rates. Whether advance phone/internet booking can be done.
3. Best mode of transport from coorg to mysore with any bus/taxi service contact info rates etc.
4. Good hotels to stay in mysore with moderate rates.

I have already booked a resort in Coorg. The resort can arrange for transport from mangalore to coorg. But their rates might be high. So I am trying to find cheap and good transport on my own.
I am along with my wife and kid.

Thanks, in advance

Hi Yogmania, Welcome to IndiaMike !. My Comments inline.

1. Best mode of transport from manglore railway station to coorg.

From Mangalore Railway station , take an auto to KSRTC Bus stand and there are ample buses to Madikeri [ All Bus types including KSRTC Volvo A/C for maximum comfort] . You could board Madikeri , Mysore & Few Bangalore bound buses . [ Hint is : Ask for Madikeri which is the local name and not Mercare / Coorg ]. In Bus it may take around 3 Hours

2. Bus/Taxi services available with their updated contacts and updated rates. Whether advance phone/internet booking can be done.

KSRTC Buses can be booked well in advance .Try out http://www.ksrtc.in/AWATAROnline/ for timings and online reservation.

3. Best mode of transport from coorg to mysore with any bus/taxi service contact info rates etc.

Again, No compelling need for Taxi if you are planning Directly from Madikeri to Mysore with no stoppages in between .

4. Good hotels to stay in mysore with moderate rates.

There are so many and you could try out Hotel Dasaprakash [Budget , Family, old ,Simple, Location Wise it's in a Crowded area[ Even though this lodge complex is secluded with car parking facility] and next to Devaraja urs road[ Main Shopping area of Mysore]] and this lodge is close to Palace ,City bus stand[Where you could board Volvo A/C / normal City buses to chamundi hills]and Zoo is 25 Rs from this lodge in Auto & there are many a lodges in Mysore based on your Budget !!

I have already booked a resort in Coorg. The resort can arrange for transport from mangalore to coorg. But their rates might be high. So I am trying to find cheap and good transport on my own.I am along with my wife and kid.

This is a important point as Many a resorts in Madikeri is not accessible through public transport. If you could specify the resort name and If I know the info,I could share the related travel info by public transport.

Hope this helps & If you need more info, Please Post.

Regards
Velu

You could take a bus from mangalore to madikeri. Quite frequent service. From madikeri you would get buses to closet town of where the resort is located.

1. Best mode of transport from manglore railway station to coorg.
The best mode of transport is always by car and the most economical mode is by public buses. One advantage of travelling by car is that you can visit some places on the way to madikere.
2. Bus/Taxi services available with their updated contacts and updated rates. Whether advance phone/internet booking can be done.
I don't think you need any advance booking for buses from mangalore to madikere or for matter even taxi's. If you really want we will give some contacts .

3. Best mode of transport from coorg to mysore with any bus/taxi service contact info rates etc.
I will come back with contact no's

4. Good hotels to stay in mysore with moderate rates.
I have stayed in hotel siddartha in mysore, very neat, economical and close by to palaces and zoo.

Call up the resort guys and find out the price they are quoting and post it, we will try to help you out finding a cheaper and safe transport.

Hi Yogmania & Welcome to Indiamike.

I did similar route but in reverse last Diwali. From Mumbai I went to Bangalore by train, then Volvo bus to Mysore, stayed at Dasprakash Hotel, visited Mysore Zoo (one of the best in India), Palace, Brindavan Garden, took a taxi to Kabini (stayed at Jungle Lodges for 2 nights), again took a taxi to Coorg via Bylakuppe & Nisargdham. Stayed at Coorg Dale home stay & then took a combination of Bus / Taxi from Coorg to Mangalore.

Thanks you guys for your assistance.

I will be staying at club mahindra resort for 5-6 days. How do I reach the resort from Madikeri if I am traveling through a public transport ?

I enquired with the resort. they said that private travel from Mangalore to resort will cost @ 2000/- bucks! Is it worth?

From you people I got this plan.
1.Get down to Mangalore st. (Mangalor CNTL is the station ?)
2.Catch a auto to KSRTC bus depo.(what is the fare from CNTL to KSRTC bus depo. ?)
3. From KSRTC bus depo catch a luxury or a lemo. to madeikri. (whether the bus is available in the early morning 6:00 am ?)
4. From madeikri do to the resort. ( are taxis, private vehicle available from madeikri to resort ? if yes, what is the fare.?)

Why I am always asking about fare is that I don't want to get cheated. If I know the rates,I can bargain and I can always give tip to the person.

1. By what train are you reaching Mangalore? (Coming in by Matsyagandha?)

2. The fare from Mangalore Central to KSRTC is about Rs. 50 (get a pre-paid auto or fix up the rates before hand)

3. No luxury buses available during the day. You get semi's and ordinary. Yes buses do start early on.

4. From Madikeri pick up an auto. No idea about fares though.

Getting cheated is always a worry for all travellers I am due in India in a weeks time for my first time and i thought the best thing to do would be ask three diffrent people for the fare and take the cheap or negotiate the fourth to the cheapest level!! If that makes sense!!

Yes, I had a memorable trip. Travelled to Manglore in Matsyagandha express from Navi Mumbai panvel, reached Manglore early in the morning. There are no private travel buses plying towards coorg in the morning so I went to bus depot had a breakfast. From there I got a bus to Mysore ( normal bus) that goes through Coorg ( Rs 80/-). Road to coorg is terrible but most of the time we were in sleep. It takes around 4.5 hrs to coorg. We reached at @ 1:30 pm to Coorg. We had already booked Club Mahindra resort. Went to the resort and next 7 days enjoyed Coorg and near by areas. like Tal cavery - place from where cavery rivers originate, dubere elephant camp, water fall, jungle safari ( cudn't see any wild animal there!), Buddhist temple and to top it all, resort is just fabilious !
Went to Mysore, hired a private vehicle( @ 2000/-), stayed there for 2 days and returned to Mumbai.

I am planning a similar route.

Thanks again.
