Hi All,
Just came back from a 2 days tour to Coorg .The tour was booked through KSTDC.It can be booked online at www.karnatakaholidays.net.I will share the overall trip experience .
DAY 1
The tour started at 7.15 am from Badami House (Corporation circle ) Bangalore. On the way bus stopped for breakfast and we reached the Tibetian Monastery at 12.30 p.m.Its a good place to visit. Then we had lunch at Kushalnagar and visited Cauvery Nisargadhama. It is a small island on the river Cauvery. One point to note - The boating and elephant ride are canceled due to rain. Then we proceeded to visit the majestic Abbey falls. This was the best moment of the trip seeing the fall in its full splendor.Be careful to wear shoes as there are plenty of blood sucking leaches on the way to the fall. Our next destination was Raja seat view point. The musical fountain was good.It starts at 7 p.m .Then the worst part of the trip was about to begin. The stay in hotel Popular woodlands was miserable. There was no light in the bathroom and the bedsheets and blankets were not clean at all and also no hot water was there.May be KSTDC can arrange for a better place and increase the price of the ticket by some amount.

DAY 2

In the morning we visited TalaCauvery at morning 6 a.m.It was full of fog when we reached there. We climbed some 200 odd stairs to reach the top of a mountain. The peak was filled with cloud and the experience was breathtaking. On the way we visited Bhagamagala temple. Then we proceeded towards the Nagarhole NP.But to our disappointment the Jungle safari was canceled due to heavy rains. The travel through the park was very scenic.Saw 3-4 wild elephants and herds of deer.At 10 p.m reached Bangalore safely.

The only bad experience was the stay in hotel and the disappointment was missing the jungle safari.
For Rs 1435 per person including accommodation this tour is definitely worth a try.

Patnayak, why did they put you up in Popular Woodlands when KSTDC's own Hotel Mayura is right there at Raja Seat - which is a perfectly decent and clean hotel with great views. The rate is excellent for what they offer, assuming everything is available in the right season!

For a tour at the height of the monsoon, patnayak did well. Many of the hotels shut down and/or give staff leave during the rains, so the Hotel Mayura may have been affected by this.

Thumbs up excellent choice

I just returned from a weekend trip to Madikeri, Nagarhole, Kaveri Nisargadhama.

I was delighted by the economy of the trip, choice of hotel ( Mayura Valley view), and the friendly KSTDC staff.

Average:
- Not enough choice of vegetarian food items in hotel mayura valley view. The dining area is too small. Hence sometimes you could end up waiting endlessly!

- If you are a strict vegetarian, the hotels chosen are sometimes veg/ non-veg. just fyi.

- The bed sheets weren’t bad at all. So, again... value for money! But still... better to carry your own!

Great:
Amazing view from the hotel. Spacious rooms and 24hrs hot water availability! The trip was very meticulously planned by KSTDC staff. Good buses.

I am sure I will go ahead and try their other package tours as well!

And ... I know now what’s that ONE right question to ask while choosing a KSTDC tour package-- check about the hotel where you are going to be accommodated! The rest - assured!

OVERALL - it is just value for money! If you would like to cover a lot , this is the right one. But, if you are loking to get to coorg to relax over a weekend.. this is not really the one to choose!

KSTDC Coorg Tour Package Review

Hello:
We had gone to Coorg with KSTDC package tour during this Aug-2010.
Booked charge (1645/- ph).
Day 1:
Morning 7:15 bus stared from Badami House, Corporation Circle.
Around 8:30 Bus stops at Chanapatnam after Mandya for shopping Silk Saree & Wooden iteams. After then around 9:00 am we took BreakFast.
Guide came to our place for 150/- ph for Entry fees (Nisargandha,Abby falls, jungle Safari...etc etc)

The first visiting place was bylakupe "Budhhist Temple" golden temple. Really nice place to visit. After visiting We took Lunch in Kushal nagar (1~2 Km from temple: Hotel Aditi). Don't order food, rather take Thali meals u could get on time.
After lunch we visited Nisargandha Island 10min from Hotel. We want to spend more time but in package tour time is constraint.

Then we moved towards Abby Falls where we found little bit rain. So pls keep an umbrella for safe.
At 5:00Pm we reached Madikeri @Hotel Mayur Hill View. Hotel is next to AKASVANI MADIKERI,near to Raja Seat. Hotel is very clean & rooms have all facilities with good sight sceen.

At 6:30pm we moved towards Raja Seat (walkable distance) and watched Light & Music show. My Kid enjoyed a lot in the Toy Train .
There are no hotels near to our place for dinner. So b prepare. Order the food before 1 Hr even for tea/cofee. Food was nice. As we are Vegetarian so don't have much choice.

Day 2:
Morning 5:00AM was amazing. U can see nice Hill view from ur room. Town was surrounded by Clouds. My father took bath even in that child climate as our 1st visit will Omkareswar temple.
Remember restrurant will open after 8:30am.(very poor service.)

Architecture of Omkareswar temple like a Masjid. Don't miss it.
Then we moved towards Talacavery (Birth place of River Cavery). Beutifull place.Don't miss it. We could not go to mountain due to time constraints.
After then we came down to Bagmangala temple. Nice temple don't miss it.Opp to temple "Sangam" (2 rivers joint place).
We take Breakfast in KSTDC hotel.
Next place is Nagarhole national Park. before that we stopped at "Hotel Red Chilli" on the way. Don't take thali Meals very very bad food. Go to other hotel or Order the food even it take time.
(Take snacks for evening as bus will not stop at Snacks time)
After we reached Nagarhole NP they had arranged Safari vehicle. Don't fear in the Jungle u will watch only dears & peacock. (Luckly we found one Elephant, jackle, Wild Pig, Wild Bullock.)

Then we moved towards Bangalore. on the way we take Snacks at 8:00PM (same we took breakfast in morning). We reached BLR at 10:00PM night.

We had a pleasant journey. Hope this might useful for others planning for coorg visit.
if u r taking Kids/parents.. (Think about food.)

Well it certainly seems to be a value for money and good introductory tour for those on a budget and with time constraints.
