Re: contact nos.

Hi Natasha,

As I mentioned in my previous post, the estate management has stopped giving this place out anymore due to irresponsible treatment to the facilities, including infrastructure that is on the offering, since its a private estate house.

But the bright-side is that another place is under-development, ready to come up

There is another place available, again belonging to one of my friends, which is similarly good. If you are keen, I can pass on their booking contact no.

thanks,

M.

Accomodation is not bad. Toilet was fairly clean. Just carry your own bedsheets. And they have a beautiful property. Also, the VIP lodgings a little way up is very good.

The day will be very pleasant, you won't need wollies specially if you are treking. But early mornings and nights will definitely be chilly. It is quite windy up there and there will be mist and fog, so carry wollens.

No comparison to Ooty since Ooty has become a circus ground now and it's a crowded town like any other. Population in Kemmangundi is very sparce and it is a small, mostly isolated place, so no malfunctions in the whether.

Smile my visit ...

route we followed :
onwards : bangalore -> chickmangloor -> Lingadahalli -> kemmangundi
return : Kemmanagundi -> lingadahalli -> chickmangloor -> bangalore

Buses all the way.. I feel, some better way may be possible. Not sure.
Lingadahalli to kemmangundi buses are very rare. 3 buses in whole day I guess timed at 9:30,1:30 and kemmangundi to lingadahalli buses are only at 10:30 , 2:30 etc.. afaik.

For people going through their own vehicle : you must be good in driving on hilly areas.Most of the places, roads are narrow enough for just one vehicle and you need to be skilled enough to adjust the situation.remember always " speed thrills, but kills" ;-)

For bus commuters like me: Plan well to avoid long transit times.else you have to pay more for jeep or hired vehicle.First bus to lingadahalli ( from chickmangloor) is at 6:00 AM.

lodging : horticulture deptt. guest house is there, can be booked from lalbagh,bangalore office in advance.You can get it at runtime there itself, if you are lucky.I feel that is the best place(perhaps the only place) available there to stay.

food : Not many options for food there.You can manage in mess of horticulture guest house( if you are not fastidious enough ).I saw many people criticizing the food, its not good, but its manageable.. Drinks: . There is a board saying alocohol is not allowed, however I feel no one cares about it .If you want, the carry with you, else you have to come down 12 km to buy them.

Places to visit : Place is good for a weekend trip or for 2-3 days.totally away from hussle-bussle of city.Nice green landscapes, hebbe falls,
shanti falls, rose garden,rock garden, jungle.Even staying at guest house is pleasant, if you love serenity and silence.
Trekking to hebbe falls is best option.Else you can hire jeep in 400/500 rs. Road to falls is really scary. Never ever dare to go there by own vehicle or bike(if you are not a daredevil.)

Things you must carry : sunscreen or umbrella ( for girls at least)
somthing to eat ( if you don't like all kind of food)
mosquito repellent ( dnt worry, socket plugs are there in guest house)
slippers are recommended to be carried when you go to hebbe falls, as you have to pass through water thrice and removing shoes many times is hactic.
water bottles.

Place more suited to :
Its great place for gang, family.

Hi ilovetravel:

A very accurate & good description of kemmangudi trip. I did the same (by bus from Bangalore via Chikamgalur, Lingdahalli) ... on 19,20,21 April 2008. The Lingadhalli to Kemmangudi bus broke down, some 5-6 Kms before the destination and I got a chance to trek up the the last few Kms to Kemmangundi. Nice Hill station, in a thick green forest & an isolated peaceful location.

Those interested, can see some Kemmangundi pictures - KS

I have been to Kemmangundi and chickmagalur last year with frens it was great. One can use the Chikmagalur town as the base and go on excursions in hired or own vehicles. This is what we did. staying in the town will allow you to relish the tasty foods at very reasonable price. One can even stay to Kemmangundi availing the various government hotel or guest house. Check few pics from my visit there.

Hi, I've tried searching for this but haven't found anything.

Does anybody know how to get from Hampi to Kemmangundi? and how long does it take?

Thanks
