Dear Mrs.Acharya,
An interesting Report on Kemmangundi!!!!! ------ Your observation:- ""Kalahhati falls: Also Kalahasti falls, it is a religious site for both Muslims and Hindus. A temple is built between a gap in the rocks. An annual pilgrimage to this spot attracts devout, God-fearing pilgrims. Avoid visiting the falls on that day."" ------ @@@How a common-man can visit this Pilgrimage spot? Does he also have to trek, like you did to Z-Point? ---- @@@How far is this spot from Birur Railway Station? ================ V.Srinivasa Prasad Hyderabad/22.10.2005 --- |

Found this info on the net:
10 kms away from Kemmannugundi is another Fall called Kalahasti or Kalkatti Falls where the water cascades down from a height of 403 ft. amidst fascinating scenery. Legend associates this place with sage Agasthya and a serene and a gorgeous local temple constructed in a narrow gap between rocks, is attributed to the Vijayanagar times. An annual jatra of Veerabhadra is held here for three day during March/ April which attract pilgrims from all over. Birur is 50 minutes journey to Chickmagalur. Then Chikmagloor to Kemmangundi, and then kemmangundi to Kalahatti. This is only a guess, I am not too sure, since I didn't go to kalahatti. That's the best I can do for you vsp27759. ![]() |

Hi there,
This thread seems to have kind of died by now... just wanted to share with you guys the place I've been regularly visiting since last X-mas (~1ce every month) in Kemmangundi for a quick get-away, its heavenly experience for me. More so because the place is not Govtt. run but a private estate with *clean beds and linen* :-) and personal attendence. You can see it at http://coffeecounty.blogspot.com/ |

Excellent write-up, Shiv Kumar.
I always say photographs tell a story on their own. My ideal travel book is one which only has pics and no gyan! but we can debate that, of course. |

Thanks Natasha...
... for your kind words. I hope you liked the place by the virtue of the pictures that tell it all.
Just a minor correction that this is Manoj, a friend of Shiv, who had posted the reply I personally recommend that you must plan to visit this place. What are the other places you have been to since your last Kemmangundi visit? |

Kemmanugundi
Hello
It is one of the very beautiful places in Karnataka and very good for trekking. Though there are lots of leeches in rainy season. I had gone there in september and that was a good time for the place. Clouds, peaks, trees - nature is in its best there. My trip details and photos can be seen on http://iwannabeabird.googlepages.com/kemmanugundi |

Hello Birdie...
I looked at the link you gave... must commend that you captured the beauty of Kemmingundi through the lenses splendidly... and good write-up as well.
If you do revisit, I would recommend that you stay with the private Home Stays instead of the Govtt. Guesthouse. The level of hygiene of the facilities and food is beyond comparison. I and my friends, together or separately keep going there once in a month or so... a fan of that place ![]() I usually stay at my friend's estate, a private place, which intially was intended out to be given as a home stay but not anymore... here's the link... http://coffeecounty.blogspot.com/ Btw its raining cats and dogs there these days while B'lore remains to be cold, cloudy and breezy ![]() |

Hi fun savy, I read your blog, and coffee county looks really beautiful. But I didn't see any contact no.s or maps attached? You could share it on this post for everyone, so they can call up and make reservations if they want to stay there.
