Jog Falls - 2 day trip - Any other places nearby?

Hi,

I am planning to go to Jog in this Monsoon season over a weekend. Plan is to take the Shimoga Express Train and stay for 1 day at the KTDC Maurya Gerusoppa hotel.
Need suggestion about how to spend the 2nd day of the trip. Any nearby places where we can trek etc? I think it will not be possible to go to places in Sirsi in 2 days.

Thanks in advance.

You could go to Agumbe, it's a sleepy village with a rainforest research station (http://www.agumberainforest.com/research.html). There's also Dodda manne, the house where 'Malgudi Days' was shot. There's a waterfall (the name eludes me right now). Its 80 odd kilometers. If you cannot get a bus from Jog falls you should be able to get one from Honavar after you backtrack to the coast. Someone from Karnataka can fill you in with accurate details or call the KSTDC offices or the research institute office and ask them. There're some details on this person's travelogue about a trek from that point : http://www.dreamroutes.org/dreams/rsharada_aagume.html.

I just checked on google maps though and it shows me the distance to be 139 kms. So not totally sure of this now....

You could possibly take the bus back from Agumbe to Bangalore directly (again KSRTC can help in this regard) instead of backtracking to the coast.

pkr1, just a week ago few of my relatives had visited Jog. Nearby they also went on a Lion & tiger Safari. I have not taken any details from them yet but it could be the Tavarekoppa Tiger and Lion Safari. If you would like to check the details click here - http://www.holidayiq.com/Tavarekoppa...g-748-937.html

Thanks a lot for your replies. But i couldn't plan for these places. Anyhow i realized the beauty of Malenadu and am sure to make more trips to surrounding areas.
Below are some details of my trip (may be useful to others in future).
1. I used KSRTC sleeper bus to go all the way to Jog falls.
2. Booked stay at Mayura Gerusoppa hotel in Jog through online.
3. I have visited Ikkeri & Keladi. These are around 8 Kms each from Sagar. Good temples, architecture and history. Make sure to have private transport arrangement to go to these places.
4. Keladi has the beautiful Gandaberunda on the ceilings of Veerabadra temple. Also there's a museum nearby.

We couldn't go to a place called Kalasi in Sagar. The taxi guy was stunned when i mentioned this place and he told very few know about this place. I read about Hoysala emblem in this temple. Have to check it out next time.
