Is Mysore worth a visit?

Hi,

I'm going to be travelling round South India with my boyfriend for the first half of December this year but haven't really decided on an itinerary yet. I would like to visit Mysore but it is a bit out of the way from where we are planning on visiting (so far Kerala and possibly Madurai). Is Mysore worth the detour?

Why do you like to visit Mysore? How did it this place came in your radar? If you can answer the above questions it would be a lot easier to know whether you should really visit Mysore.

Well it depends on your interests. Palaces and temples mark the significance of Mysore. If you aren't very interested in these, give it a miss.

We visited Mysore and stayed some days because it was on our way between northern Kerala and Hyderabad. We liked it and made a day trip to Somnathpur and Srirangapatnam. Especially the first is nice.
And of course there is the palace in Mysore. Try to be there on Sunday evening when it is illuminated.

Agree with you 100%. I have spent a lot of time in Mysore and it is my favourite place after Uttarkashi. If ever I need to live in a more urban place it will have to be Mysore. It is a beautiful and gentle place, great weather great people and lots of places around to visit and see.
