Hotel in Mysore

Trying to decide between Hotels Regaalis and Metropole in Mysore- heard good things about Metropole about being a charming place etc- but online there were several bad reviews. Any thoughts ?
Thanks

Orange County, Kabini

Also wondering if anyone has stayed at Orange county in Kabini and what their experience was- leaning towards that over Jungle Lodges...
Thanks

Hi, hope it still can mean a help to you. I have been to Jungle Lodges last month and i enjoyed it a lot. The friend that suggested it to me, said it is much better than Orange county.

Have a nice trip

They are literally next door to each other so you can always just book at one place and check out the other... I would imagine Regaalis is cheaper, yes?

I never saw the rooms at either hotel, but did hang out at the pool at Regaalis quite a bit. (Its kinda dingy but it grows on you and is a good place to meet other travelers.)
The buffet lunch there is AMAZING.

Metropole and its restaurant is gorgeous but I never actually ate there. But again, no idea about rooms.

Hi,
You cannot compare orange county to karnataka jungle lodges at kabini. karnataka jungle lodges is in midst of the forest whereas orange county in an estate converted in modern hotel and any day i will opt for jungle lodges.

If you are referring to Kabini Lodge (Govt-owned), then Kabini lodge and Orange County are located at opposite sides of Kabini river. I did not stay there but I saw both from the river. Orange county looked more well maintained. Kabini lodge charges higher rates to NRIs and foreigners, approximately US$160/person/night. Orange county will be cheaper for foreigners.

After spending few days in that area, I felt that it is not important where you stay and cheaper the better. The important things about Kabini and Nagarhole/Bandipur are the pristine, unspoiled forest and Kabini river and the wild animals (we saw elephant herds, wild boars, indian bisons, crocodiles etc.). From our patio, we literally saw the water cycle meaning clouds coming and hitting the mountains and pouring down as rain several times a day. I did not expect to see "nature at its best" like that anywhere in India.

Why dont you stay at Sandesh the Prince - its good Moderate hotel and i have been promoting long period for International travelers. Good service too. As far as Kabini - Jungle Lodges is best option... Where you get complete package & no hidden cost.

We stayed at the Metropole 3 years ago. The rooms in the new building are just average hotel rooms, in fact, more boring than average.

The Heritage rooms, on the other hand, are lovely. We had a very large room on the second floor of the main building with a dressing room, a large entry way, a small balcony, and a large bathroom with a quaint footed tub that might be difficult for some.

The problem with the hotel is that it seemed to attract a somewhat loud, youthful crowd; we feared noise from the interior courtyard dining area in the evening. That turned out not to be a problem, but it was somewhat boisterous during lunch and cocktail hour. We choose to eat indoors.

The hotel had just been refurbished and reopened when we stayed there. I don't know what it is like now.
