Exclamation Help Needed!!!! special burns unit in hospital in Hubli?

Hi Everybody!

I have a huge favour to ask... Does anybody know of a special burns unit in any hospital in Hubli? We are helping (or trying at least) to help a young girl who has received burns (her dress caught fire) to 60 - 65% of her body. I have asked around but nobody seems to know of anywhere local, but I hoped someone on here could help? - We would bring her to Goa, but it's about an 8 hour drive on a terrible road, so it's out of the question really. If anyone can suggest somewhere I would be eternally greatful.

Thanks

Rob

This is just off a google search,

http://yellowpages.webindia123.com/d...i/Hospitals/1/

Diwakar Orthopaedic Hospital And Trauma Centre
Hemant Nagar Road Keshwapur Hubli-580023
Details : Phone : 0836-283144

I would call them and ask them which is the best place to go to.

Actually, I am a little confused.. the best thing to do would be to get to a good doctor in Hubli (doesn't she already have one? which is my confusion) and seek his advice about where to go.
65% burns should be well manageable locally, unless complications have already set in.

Hubli Panjim is less than 190km, why is that an 8 hour drive?

Thank you for that, I asked the doctors in the hospital (who were looking after her), but no one knew of a burns unit locally, the closest apparently is in Benaulim (they said).

Thanks for the number I will give them a call. As she is of low caste and has two lamni women (mother and sister) looking after her this does not always result in good care.

Even the other parents in the ward said it was good we turned up as she was not being well looked after... It's amazing what a difference just a visit can make.

The road... I set off to Hubli at 4:30 in the morning and arrived there at around 10:30 ( I know that's six hours, but as there was just me and Ali in the car I was going quick! - would not be possible with a patient in the back!). At two points I didn't think we were going to make it (I took the most direct route). Big mistake! About 20 miles of the road was nearly impassible with our taxi fan (not enough clearance underneath), The monsoon, washed the road away to leave huge muddy tyre marks from the large cargo lorries (wider wheel base etc), about 2 ft deep in places!

On the drive back we took a different route, we left at 9:30 and arrived back around 4:30 (7 hours), the road was much better (but must have been much longer as it took longer). But I still bounced off the ceiling a couple of times as we didn't see the invisible speed bumps they have over here! I think the train would be the best option. I have been told that leaves 11:30pm and arrives 6:00 in the morning in Vasco. (still takes 6+ hours).

Rob, also try contacting this outfit: Children's Burn Foundation, especially for longer term help http://www.childburn.org/

They're based in California but help children who are burn victims all over the world, and they can help set up a mechanism for people to make donations. For example, there's currently a story on CNN's website about a burned Iraqi boy who's receiving help from them: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/...olo/index.html

Hi All...

I've rung round a few places (thanks for the list Capt Mahajan), the best place seems to be in Belgaum, found a hospital with a special burns unit. So hopefully we can find a comfortable way to transport her.... Fingers crossed...

Just a quick one.... Managed to get her into KLE Hospital in Belgaum, thankfully the ambalance and medical staff (doctor and nurse) were amazing, the driver got us the 100kms in 1 hour 15, which was scary but magnificent. We left them at 2:30am this morning, I wish I could say her prognosis is good, but I can't..... I'm not a religious person, but I do beleive in positive thought so if you can spare a few seconds out of your day to wish her the best I would be grateful...

Thanks

Rob
