hampi vs Badami ??
Hi IM érs....
at long last I am planning another trip to India....this year...after an absence of 18years. Excited !!! wish to do an overland from Bangalore to Bombay...and with a little of more than 2 weeks at disposal. stops are Hampi , Bijapur , and Aurangabad. I have alloted 5 days to Hampi , and recently come across a picture of Badami....and I must see this place !! which one of the others would you sacrifice ? Aurangabad is mustgo . would....you shorten the hampi stay ? its either that or Bijapur gets the boot. I normally dont like to do things in a rush , but am a working boy so all I get is 5 weeks plus some days at best.... thanks many in advance Bertinho , Austria ![]() |

Last year we made this trip in the opposite direction: Bijapur, Badami and Hampi. We loved al three places.
In your case I should stay in Hampi for a shorter time. |

Like Vonkla I reccommend you to stay three days in Hampi and a couple of days in Badami - Aihole - Pattadakal, and of course I loved Bijapur too.

Do try and cover Badami, Pattadkal and Aihole also. Aihole is the cradle or the school of Indian temple architecture since 3rd - 5th century AD and the temples there and around Hampi represent the works of it students.
Will be going there in a few weeks myself ... Cheers |

Badami can be great. See the fantsatic staff at the museum and get directions to the more difficult temples. But, it isn't Hampi..

All these places you have in mind to visit are excellent.
If your entire trip is two weeks, you might find it hard to do all of them in that time. I wouldn't stay more than two or three days in Hampi, it's too hot and dry! You can visit the temple, town there and surroundings (Pattdakal and Aihole, and the Jain temple) by bus all in one day. Aihole especially isn't taking long, and you could probably skip it if time is pressing because not much there. Badami is a place I've got to decide if I want to revisit this year, it would definitely be worth a couple of days, to explore the town, and then the cave temples. I did not get to go to Bijapur myself when I was there, but it'll give you the Islamic architecture and the pictures I've seen of it look stunning. That one do not skip! But Aurangabad will be almost impossible, since it's way far to the north of Bombay. If you only have two weeks, it's a squeeze. It would take forever on a train... I'd fly but that could be a hassle to... |

Actually Hampi by itself will take 3 days. avoid sundays to avoid the day tripping bus crowds..

From Bijapur everything is complicated. You should go to Sholapur by train or bus and from there you have two trains daily to Ahmadnagar, the best one is train 2627 07.40 - 11.57. From Ahmadnagar to Aurangabad probably better take a bus (115 km) because the only daily train 0515 14.55 - 21.50 takes too long.
Another solution is to travel from Sholapur to Jalgaon and visit Ajanta and Ellora from there. Jorge Last edited by Jorge Reverter : Feb 27th, 2008 at 16:32. Reason: corrections |

badami was fab, and i walked to mahakoota over the hill .Hampi is worth two or three nights.Bijapur is quite interesting.Ahmednagar is worth seeing for its fort and mosques.
Dambal near Gadag looks interesting too. http://www.indoarch.org/place.php?pl...227%2BM%3D1052 Last edited by Nick-H : Jul 19th, 2008 at 21:42. Reason: There is an edit button: please use it |
