Hampi from Goa.
We are planning to go to Hampi and stay 2 nights.
So far we are going by train in the day to see all the sights along the way. Then I have been looking at Guest houses in Hampi Bazaar as I dont fancy crossing the river. My question is has anyone stopped in them and which would they recommend. We dont mind basic and have stayed in Agonda huts a few times unattatched ones. But would like to trust others who have stayed there. Also is the food available similar to Goa or are there places to avoid eating? Any tips gratefully accepted. Thanks Last edited by Ali-Monbeam : Feb 5th, 2008 at 22:22. |

Not on any of your questions no. Just that this makes for a splendid read if you haven't already (and a ditto website pointed to there): Hampi: Everything you want to know.

Hi
I was there in December last. Stayed across the river. Wouldn't recommend it if you want to catch the hustle-bustle of the temple town life, since the last boat is at 6pm. The first boat is at 7am hence you will miss the sunrise moments on matanga hill also. But if you just want to chill and not look around, Gopi guest house across the river is the best place to stay. its on the left turn after the river crossing, down 500m or so. I also stayed at Hermanns guest house in a bylane before virupaxa (again some 350m inside). That was good too. Toilets were clean. Expect to pay around 250.00 for a room with double bed attached bath, at both places. Food is good at the restaurant on the left side just before the left turn to the river ferry (your back to the Virupaxa temple wall on the north side). I think if you simply arrive and search with a frugal traveller's "adjust as you go" mindset .. it will be best cheers |

Thats brilliant...Thanks.
I thought I would try and book somewhere from here as we are going in December and I know some places get a bit busy at that time. The first time we went to Goa I was told to go with an open mind ect....that was the best advice. (we had only done Europe and hotel type holidays before..now we are hooked on India and exploring) |
