Hello Beach, great to see you.

Should there be 9 maps or 2?

A total of 9 map covering all the Hampi Ruins. Now Only two of the 9 are ready. I'll upload the rest as they are getting ready in a slow fashion (may be in 2-3 months time )

steven_ber, any feedback on this, pl. let me know....

I'm having visions of Beach with a compass walking round Hampi and making each step exactly 1 metre, then counting the metres from one monument to the next, then calculating the appropriate distance on the map.....

Whatever way you're doing it, the maps look great.

You do realise that the western part of Hampi is now going to see more tourists than the other parts.

The north (the other side of river) & west are more relaxed, for those feel as if the rest of Hampi is ‘hectic’ !!

btw, you missed my camera (used like AK47) in your observation

If there were ever a 'Most useful thread on indiamike.com' competition, this thread would win.

Can I make a suggestion.

Can you do a little map of Hospet, not any great detail, just the location of the train station and the place where the bus to Hampi departs from, plus a place for a chai or a meal, it would be a great addition.

Great going as always Beach, and I agree, not only do I picture you scuttling around there, but apparently doing so year in year out...

Or alternatively just click to open, opens in a separate window even I think (or you can make it so), you can then download (save) it if so desired. Users will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to read .pdf files -- or Windows users anyway, do Mac and Linux users use it? I'll bet there are open-source variants by now anyway.

This is so unbelieveably useful. Thanks Beach!!! I've just made my first proper itinerary decision - Hampi is getting a good few days!!! When the time comes, this lot is definitely getting printed out.

Can I second the request for a basic map of Hospet?

Beach - We loved Hampi and in part it was due to you. Thanks again. Wish the maps and all were there when we went.

Acrobat? We're still on OS 9 on our Mac and, yes, we use Acrobat for .pdf files.

My OS is so old that I still use 5.0.5 Acrobat and constantly am reminded to upgrade which I can't do till I upgrade the OS. But 5x works on all the .pdf files with which I've come in contact thus far including the fabulous Beach maps with the rounded boulders looking great. [I did get a pop-up telling me to get a newer version and that some of the .pdf files may not appear, but, as usual, they worked fine]

Good suggestion on Hospet map. I'll upload one soon it gets ready.

Till then for Hospet town here is a description. http://www.hampi.in/Stay_&_Tour/Hospet.htm

Also this could be useful for the other essentials of Hampi tour http://www.hampi.in/Stay_&_Tour_Hampi.htm

Yes I went to hampi in january and it was very hot at that time but worth the visit. You get transformed into another world - the stone age...My 500 steps walk upto the hanuman temple made me recognise it instantly on seeing in Jackie Chan's movie "The Myth". In fact whole of its Indian portion has been shot in Hampi with the last scene where Jackie Chan leaves for China in a karokle. It was nice and strange to see outsiders making use of our heritage while I haven't seen any Indian movie based in Hampi.

The ‘other side’ of the river a.k.a Virupapur Gadde

For those who are trying to figure out that erstwhile hippy refuge area in Hampi.

Take a walk from the bus stand to the coracle ferry point. You’ll pass via the giant temple tower and the temple tank. After crossing the ferry again walk along the ‘main road’. You are now practically walking along the courtyards of the guesthouses and the hut-accommodations.
