halebid, belur and sravanabelgola
Hi,
When visiting these places, what will be the best place to stay. We have time, and don't have to do them all in one day. Is it better to have one of these places as a base, or is it better to pack our stuff and stay in either of them. Any recommandations hotels, lodges, guest houses or whatever acco. Thanks a lot in advance, greetings, Mea |

The guidebooks always recommend Hassan but I'd much rather check out the homestays available in Sravanabelagola. It's a much more interesting location.

I have always (two times) been in Hassan but in my opinion Belur is the best place to stay, if I remember well you can stay in a hotel
belonging to KTTDC and also there are few guest houses. Hassan is a boring city not interesting at all and Sravanabelagola is far away and I recommend to visit on your way to Belur/Halebid. Jorge |

stayed in both
Yes Hassan is a boring plave really - decent size town, good choice of hotels and restaurants (remember a good Thali there) and is more convenient for getting to and from both Belur and halebid. While Sravanabelagola has more to explore and is generally more scenic, but less choices unless as Shaktipalooza says you go for a home stay - which we didn't have time to organise, I don't really recommend the hotels there.

Hi,
I am aware I a little late into this thread, but for those who would refer to this in the future: if you are willing to pay a little extra money(and then worry later how to repay!) the Hoysala Village Resort is an excellent place to stay. It is very centrally located (Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelagola within striking distance), self-contained and has a fantastic spread of food the whole day. I stayed there recently and my family enjoyed the stay immensely. Amitabh |

visited the places and stayed in Belur in the Vishnu Regency. which was really good. Clean, big and airy rooms and also smelling nice.
Hot shower in the morning (at least) and a restaurant as well. |

I know this is kind of late, but my 2cents..
We did the Belur-Halebid-Sravanabeloga circuit in April 2007. Stayed at Hoysala Village Resort, and found it to be quite comfortable. Food is good, though not very authentic Kannada cuisine, and service is efficient. Also close to Belur and Halebid. The highlight of the journey was though our little drive to a backwaters some 12-13 Kms from Hassan. I dont remember the place now, but it has a ruined church on the banks of a large man made lake. We were the only souls in that place other than a lone fisherman quite some distance away on the lake. It was magical, and the sunset was beautiful. The drive to the place was through some fantastic farms and wooded areas. I will try to upload a photo I took there. Do make it to the place if possible. The Hotel provided us the directions. |
