H.H. Dalai Lama- Jan. in Karnataka
You can go to Dalailama.com, and see that HH is going to give teachings Jan.3-14 at the Drepung Lachi Monastery in Mungod, Karnataka. Does anyone know any places to stay near there? Sera monastery has a guesthouse, but I can't find anything about Drepoung.
I went to HH's teachings in Dharmasala 2 years ago, and it was very crowded and we were very lucky to have contacted a monastery- affliated guesthouse months ahead. Also weather in Jan. there, and any other recent reports of any of the Tibetan settlements in Karnataka would be appreciated |

i am a regular in bylekuppe, yet i've never been to mundgod (not mungod as you wrote). "This settlement is situated in Tattihalli in Mundgod Taluk of Karnataka State, India. It is about 267 miles north of Bylakuppe and about 32 miles south of Hubli, the nearest railway station."
therefore, i can't account for weather/accomodations there. yet, in bylekuppe, the weather is delightful in january, as well as the rest of the year. it is really a unique place, being a south indian plateau, so it never gets too hot nor too cold. in bylekuppe their is a wonderful newish guesthouse (three years old) that was funded by the taiwanese that i always stay at. yet the name is forgotten, sorry. but, if you choose to look for it, it is near the major monestaries, yet is on the end of the village. ask for the guesthouse with big gardens in front- which describes just one of them (i believe). sorry, for the poor info. anyway, bylekuppe is great. makes dharamashala feel like madness. 80% tibetan there, 18% local kannadigas (indians), and 2% (at most) foreigners. most indian tourists only go to the "golden temple" and avoid the rest of the monasteries.
