good places to stay on Karnataka coast?

We may well be travelling from Mangalore to Goa, and I was wondering about good places to stop for a day or two for quiet beach time in a nice place. Think maybe Gokarna is a bit touristy for me these days?

Suggest you to check out Ankola, near Karwar, farther North of Gokarna.

heres a list of other coastal places in karnataka...
places to stay

a great way to do this coastline is to hop onto the konkan rail - and keeping hopping off at places near the coast.
take a day off at them small coastal fishing / temple towns... hop back onto the train - and hop off 2 stations later
at best - you'll have a picturesque ride!

any particular reason for karnataka?

Well, good question... we haven't totally decided on our trip. We have 5 weeks. Think it will be either:

a. Mumbai - two weeks in Madhya Pradesh - flight Indore/Bangalore - Mysore - Coorg - Mangalore - up coast to Goa - Mumbai

b. no MP, start in Goa - Gokarna - Mangalore - Coorg - Mysore - Kochi - Lakshadweep - Mumbai

So as you can see, Karnataka is pretty central both ways.

in mangalore u can only find beaches ,but if ur want to visit temples there is the famous Krishna Temple in UDUPI which is just a hour drive from mangalore.

If ur in mangalore and also if ur a non-vegetarian then u must try out the local cusine(both the christian and the hindu) .

Plus u have a very famous St Alysious church which has ancient paintings.

most of them small towns on the coast will have very basic lodging... but clean.
unless - its a resort.
since they're tiny coastal towns - arrive and check it out - if you dont get any ref/preferences before that.

well there are no 5-start hotels as such but ull get very decent clean hotels.

i can name a few

1.udupi residency( near city bus stand)
2.paradise isle(is rite on the MALPE beach about 1o mins from udupi)
3.kidiyoor lodginig(n ear city bus stand)
4.ramakrishna residency (near geethanjali theater , has a good continental restaurant)

if u happen to go to manipal (must see place if ur a student) , there too u can find good hotels (a lot many no need to mention ther are plenty).
